Is this a typical recruiting practice?

Reading the CL today I read this about Dennis Thames and his trip to visit U. of Michigan. Do powerhouse universities such as Michigan use their papers to do their bidding?.....pretty clever if they do

"The Louisville football star woke up at his uncle's home near the Motor City to read a feature story about himself in the Detroit Free Press, Michigan's largest newspaper."

Considering his uncle is an OF for the Detroit Tigers. I haven't read the article in question, but I'm guessing his ties to Marcus Thames was the reasoning behind it.

It's only a matter of time before Michigan steals one of the state's top recruits. They had Charles Mitchell thinking about it last year after whats his name got the assistant job up there. Michigan would be pretty hard for me to pass up

You might have notice that when Rich Rodriguez was at West Virginia, our top players always had offers from WV. I know Michigan has a coach from USM on their staff now, but I think Rich did that on purpose b/c he always recruits Mississippi pretty hard.

who was an O-line coach at State in the late 80's and early 90's. I think he's now moved on to Florida State so we might see some of our players getting offers from there in the future.
