Is this the last year of COVID super senior?

Or so we still have another year of them? Can’t remember if the ones who redshirted or sat out in 2020 still have another year. I think maybe they do since 2020 simply didn’t count at all. Can’t imagine there are many of them left after this season.

If they are, seems like they’d be at lower levels.

There could still be several. 2020 doesn’t count. RS 2021. Play 22-25.

Just read in an article on ESPN that Max Johnson is out for the season at UNC after leg surgery and has TWO years of eligibility remaining. 🤦

Ncaa about to add a 5th year. AARP might be getting into the NIL game before long.
I see absolutely no reason for this. You can at least see the rationale behind NIL and the portal - I mean, all students can do these things. I guess they can stay in school their whole life too, as long as it’s a legit degree, so eh.

This is just a bad road to go down, and it keeps getting worse.

I got hurt early in my Jr year in HS and missed most of the year. I used to have dreams that they let me come back and play another year well into my 20's. I was wrecking those kids.

The average length of time to get a degree is 5 years (maybe a decimal longer, actually), so it makes sense to have eligibility be for 5 years.

My preference would be no redshirting for any reason, just a 5 year clock and you can play whatever games you can get into.

If I was running for President, I would use NIL to my advantage. I would also hire 1000 or more people to go to every game day and hold up my sign.

If they were a freshman in 2020, they could have to 2025. Assuming a redshirt.

If players can now unionize, if players can now earn money off their name and image, if players can transfer and play immediately, and if players are going to become employees of a school's athletics department, then players should be able to attend classes and play for as long as they want.

That is a reasonable and logical conclusion.
It should be the next rule that is challenged and the next rule to fall.

^ I am not saying I want it that way, just saying it should be the next rule to fall, given what's happened over the last 7 years.

If a player is still playing through COVID exceptions, my guess is he is not anyone to fear.

Maybe not in football or basketball but in other sports another year on scholarship is huge. It also takes a spot from a high school kid which is why the covid extra year rule was borderline criminal.

Wild!
2016 - redshirt at Oregon
2017 - played every game
2018 - season ending ankle injury first game of the season
2019 - missed entire season due to surgeries
2020 - Covid - didn't play
2021 - season ending achilles injury second game of the season
2022 - played every game
2023 - transferred to Miami and played in some games
2024 - played this past weekend

So, his actually playing years were:
2017
2022
2023
2024

His first 2 seasons and last 3 seasons were somewhat normal. It's just that 4 season gap in the middle.

I think 4 year eligibility will be the next domino to fall. It's already almost a joke as it is. Next step is unlimited eligibility.
