It has been many, many moons since I last posted here. Thought I might jump back in.

I feel cautiously optimistic about Saturday. I've been at this too long to feel very optimistic, but I do feel some hope. In the back of my mind, though, I wonder if LSU rebounds from their Nicholls State frustrations with the same focus and intensity with which we rebounded from our Old Dominion frustrations. Seems similar in a way. We shall see.

Btw, not that it matters, but I'm a Class of 95 alumnus. History major.

We will certainly have to buck historical trends to win this game. This would hardly be the first time we've been teased with the carrot of success, only to have the rug very publicly pulled out from under us.

It appears UK was just very highly overrated after their 31-0 win over a terrible Southern Miss team. Also, they more or less self-destructed in that game and pretty much every break went our way.

It's at least plausible that the Nicholl's game was just a hangover from the LSU's close lose to SoCal. I fully expect them to buck up and play much better for their first SEC contest.

I don't know if I'm optimistic or not. At least I would say it's not unthinkable that we could win.

Beamer, for his part, is saying the right things publicly about keeping the team grounded in spite of the outside praise since the UK game. How effective that is with a bunch of 19 and 20 year olds, we shall see.

I'm in a weird limbo...excited for the chance of a really big win, then I remember that we're South Carolina and can't have nice things and get pessimistic. What a huge opportunity for the program, though.

I'm also an alumnus of the College of Arts and Science: class of 2016, English major/history minor.

I can't bring myself to think of beating UK as a "really big win".

I meant to say "chance," not "change." Clearly that English degree is really working out for me. I was referring to LSU coming up, not Kentucky last week. I agree that Kentucky is not a really big win.

Pessimism runs in our veins. History has taught us that no matter how high we get after a big win, a terrible loss is right around the corner. When that is, no one knows. Defensively, we can hang with most teams. I’m still not sold on the offense. I’m a Florence guy, and pulling for LaNorris, but haven’t seen anything yet that gives me optimism. Hope we can get the Offense going this week. Sooner or later, the D is gonna have a bad game.

That's true, defense will have a bad game. I just hope it is down the road after the offense has improved. Seems like we lay an egg after a good game. I too am an alumus: BS '78 and MBA '82
