I’ve tried to follow it passively for years but it never seems to end. I think NCAA baseball regular season is about two games and the tournament is about 50. I’m always surprised when it’s still going on.
Sunday’s debacle was the first time the entire fortnight+ in Omaha that a team scored more than 7 runs. Pitching has been really good the entire time (Wake-LSU final game was best of the tourney). LSU had the luxury of throwing their C guy Sunday and then once it got out of hand, they looked forward to last nite. Gators were forced to throw a guy who was far from his best and LSU’s bats finally broke out in a big way.
Interesting back story... I have a good friend who is current HC for a Big 12 baseball team. He told me a few years ago that back in 2011(?) the NCAA changed the "formula" for legal aluminum bats. Many believe this was done for player safety, but really it was done at the behest of ESPN. Why you ask... to shorten the games. It seems ESPN believed there was a growing future to televise the NCAA tournament and up until 2011 many games would go into the 4-5 hour timeframe due to hot bats. ESPN wanted a more predictable game length to better package for TV.
