It's like snow days on steroids

So we get an email from school earlier today that my daughter has come in contact with someone who tested positive for covid either Friday or Saturday. Don't understand the Saturday bit since she wasn't in school, but whatever. I have never seen my daughter so happy as when we told her she had to quarantine for the next ten days. She was jumping and dancing around, which I found amusing because she really likes school.

Cool, I can relive that happy experience...no school today. Wonderful feeling. The only time we dismissed from school was when the boiler broke and no heat for the buildings. Also, when President Kennedy was assassinated, that was not a joyful experience.

My school district notifies when our kid has a class with someone who has tested positive for Covid.
But no quarantining. This is in Clarkston MI, but is typical of school districts in MI. Maybe this is why covid in MI is going wild again right now

Curious where you live, how old your daughter is (is policy different for elementary vs high school).

Our high school (public) is pretty much the same. My wife and I both had Covid during this school year. My wife in September and I had it in November. Both times, a couple days of quarantine, with a negative test she could go back.

My youngest is in 6th grade at a small catholic school. They are way more stringent. It was close to 20 days of quarantine each time we got it.

My kid’s school has masks and spacing in place. We get notified of cases, but have not heard of any instances of tracing-related quarantining because the protocols are deemed to limit close contact.

The district in which my wife teaches does the same and this is a district that will shut down if a solitary snowflake falls.

Western PA. It's a district wide policy, but pretty common for the area. She's 10. If we get her tested after a week she can knock two whole days off her time. We told her she can have the extra two days.

Today was day 1 of her quarantine. To celebrate she slept in until 7:30.

No kidding. I used to love snow days, I just wish we had some snow on the ground to make a few snowballs and build a snowman, and then follow that up with some hot chocolate. The only real downside right now is Mr. and Mrs. Claus have to find some new time to finish the last few Christmas items.

Have an 11th grader in public school and a 7th grader in catholic school. Public schools send out emails if someone in the school tests positive, but don't say if it is a student or staff, only tell you that you will be contacted if deemed a close contact, but apparently as long as everyone is wearing masks, they do not consider anything a close contact. We don't even get emails from the catholic school unless it is someone in your child's class, and only the person who tested positive quarantines.

Here's something completely messed up. My cousin that is in college recently tested positive for Covid. They told him if he was vaccinated he could immediately go back to class. Since he isn't he had to quarantine. What sense does that make?

I'm not terribly surprised. My daughter was allowed back immediately if she had a documented positive result in the last 90 days or had been fully vaccinated more than two weeks ago.

Doesn't she still 'zoom' in to participate remotely?

Yes, but in addition it is also being recorded and it's not mandatory as long as she does the work in the online folders. It just doesn't take her that long to go through a day's work, and the work is posted first thing in the morning because of kids who are still remote exclusively. Right now she's hanging out in the zoom meeting between classes with friends and whooping it up. Personally, I think kids should be in school, but what can you do? I think this is the second or third time one of her best friends has been relegated to quarantine, and my daughter was getting a little jealous. Almost her entire class is in quarantine this time.

No snow days, but the boiler did break down several times during the winter.
