I'm going to hit several topics in one post, so don't be mad when it looks like I didn't post it to the right person.
I'm happy that Bowen stepped it up yesterday, but our pitching situation is scary even being sheepish. I think we're going to maybe see Bowen on Fri., Lalor on Sat., and Carver/Moore splitting Sun. Then we'll have to hope that Lee Swindle steps up as a midweek guy and then throw the "staff" on Weds. when we have two midweek games. Weatherford should not start because heck, he got a sore shoulder coming out of the bullpen, much less throw 120 pitches every seventh day. The midweek games might be "rehab assignments" for people like Pigott. I don't know if Crosswhite will come back this year or not. Also, right now our closer is Andy Wilson, and we're going to see some guys like Houston, Busby, Hollingshead, Wesson, and Koon pressed into action a lot more than anticipated. If I was Polk, I'd have to take a long look at using Paxton Pace and Shawn Marquardt because of the injury situation.
Agree with everyone on Polk not sending/sending runners. He should not be in the third base coaching box. I think he only does it because he likes doing it. It probably hurts his overall coaching a little bit. Believe it or not, I think Raffo should be the third base coach. There has been a debate in the past about Big League managers coaching third, I believe Tom Lasorda did it for a very short time, and the consensus is that it is easier to manage a game in the dugout.
Agree on taking pitches. Storm nailed it.
I do feel better about our team after this series. Instead of firing Polk, we might just need to fire the trainer. We have the most season ending muscle strains in the history of baseball. I think we can manage if we get Turner and Pigott back.
Also, I think Ole Miss is a good team with two great pitchers. You can go a long way with that, but I just don't think that they are the 5th best team in the country. At least not right now.
