I've spent the last few days watching the Texas High School State Championships

and I really hope the combination of Coach Leach's contacts and UT games down the road can help us sign a couple of guys. I've heard of players heading from Yale and D2 schools to UT, Clemson, etc. so we could probably get a few to sign We could possibly get transfers. UT has one coming in from Ohio State and there starter announced today he was leaving. Lotsa talent to poach from.

That kid from southlake that is transferring back to UT is unreal talent wise. Texas has a way of ruining 5 star QB’s, or any of their qb’s. Time will tell I guess but he is loaded with arm talent.

Texas talent is overrated, which is why Texas and Texas A&M are perennially overrated. Too much 7v7, not enough physicality, especially on defense. And the players are generally peaked out as far as talent goes, as they've gotten superior coaching since they were like 12 years old. I've never seen what people thought was so special about those Texas borders.

That said, yeah, we can probably pick up some good QBs and OLs there. Maybe some WRs too but I think the better talent will be here.

I think Texas A&M may be waking up to this reality. Jimbo knows he needs better defensive talent.

Texas has placed over 2,500 ppl in the NFL. Now MS has placed more ppl per capita, but its hard to deny the fact of 2,500 ppl from one state getting to the highest level of football.

Texas has way more people who care way more about football from a very young age than any other state. Period. It manifests in an insane amount of competition at the younger level through high school. Demographics do kick in and cut down on some of the upside do to athleticism for more than some other states. But there is still a lot of talent.

At the beginning of the NFL season 189 players were from Texas High School football. 2nd only to Florida at 192. Of course Florida has 12 NFL players from IMG who recruits nationally (I think only 2 of the current 12 NFL players from IMG are actually from Florida.I know Grant Delpit and Kellen Mond both transfered their from Texas high schools.)

Point being, Texas produces a ton of talent, because it has a ton of people. Per Capita, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi are better, but you can't get past the shear numbers in TX, FLA, and CA.

Just a few weekends ago when Andy Dalton started over Justin Fields, 8 of the 32 starting QB's in the NFL were from Texas. That's insane.

By the way, Texas and Texas A&M suck because they're fans, coaches, boosters, and administrations are arrogant pricks that prefer to win on paper than put in hard work. This filters all the way down to the players. Talent has never been their problem, balls are their issue.

True JLS. Years ago I lived out in west Texas and found out that they love to talk about how great they are and how great Texas is and if you dared to disagree they would huff up and want to fight. A quick punch in their nose would usually end their talk. One of my routine comments to them was "Texas would be great if it weren't full of Texans."

Not necessarily. It is fast becoming full of a Californians.

Went to the Guyer vs Westlake game last night.

I didn’t know Westlake had the #1 QB who’s committed to Clemson, Cade Klubnik.

That was a roller coaster of a game…. The timeout by Guyer when WL was punting, the followed by the 53-yard FG was the back breaker. Guyer must have been thinking fake punt….

Agree 100%. Texas players do tend to be overrated in the sense that they are far better developed in high school than players from other states.

So they can come in and play early but they seem to be much closer to their ceilings than players from MS and Alabama.

At least, this seems to bear out with the results on the field over the years.

I have been watching these games for about 15 years because of television packages available. In the Westlake - Guyer game there was good scheme execution and quality play there in. The North Shore – Duncanville game showed more athletes and grown men on the field. Even though Westlake will get a higher final national ranking, I would put money on either North Shore or Duncanville in a bloodbath money game properly officiated.

The Westlake receivers and defensive backs were fundamentally sound and situationally aware most of the game and that was good. The problem for Westlake is those players have maxed out and can only maintain what they have. The North Shore and Duncanville receivers and DBs are genetically superior to Westlake’s. I do not see many Westlake or Guyer skill players playing SEC quality football because winning match-ups and not running precision mechanical patterns is the new reality.

A case in point is, LSU has produced many receivers in the NFL even though LSU has never been much of a scheme passing attack?

Dear God it has.

They have one or two games on local TV every week so I've seen several 6A & 5A games. They aren't better players than the rest of the country but there is a lot more of them here to find talent or those hidden gems. The competition level is really high and yet there are several great programs around Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. Of course they are 4 of the top 10 population size cities. Couple that with the football culture here and you can see why there are so many.

id like to see a breakdown of that by decade...I'd be willing to bet the biggest portion of those numbers were pre 1980...

How do they not beat Bama? Twice as many NFL players in Georgia, & they don’t have to share nearly as much with GA Tech as Bama does with Auburn (although they do have to share some with Auburn themselves).

Texas has a ton of talent, however, picking & choosing the correct players can be tough.

- Bama, LSU, OU, Ohio State pluck some of the top ones.
- Then when some of the players have upside & others don't, it can be hard to pick the right guys. Do you take more polish with less upside or more upside with less polish?

- Lastly, due to many of the Texas kids coming from some money, often times they lack that same desperation to be great that kids from other states have.

- WRs & DL in Texas get ranked 98 or so by services when they'd be a 90-92 in most other states. Their just so polished at a young age & attend all the recruiting combines because the combines are usually held close to home. They just become famous

It is hilarious if you look at the schools that have won a national championship since Georgia has won one. Almost every P5 school that surrounds Georgia has won one more recently than them. Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Alabama, Clemson and Miami.

Its got to suck knowing these schools won these national championships with a lot of the same players that is right in your recruiting foot print and is beating you as well.

That's why they have D1 and D2. Westlake gets a lot of mileage from multi state championships. D1 teams could take on anyone in the country.
