As suspected, Florida b*tched out on their end and never made the initial payment, and that was exactly why all the drama unfolded.

Am I reading that chart correctly? X amount per month?

Signing Bonus: $500k
Year 1: $3,000,000
Year 2: $3,500,000
Year 3: $4,500,000
Year 4: $2,350,000
Total: $13,850,000

For someone that has never touched the field in a college football game AND could transfer if the going gets tough... That is insane!

I would have b*tched out of that stupid “agreement”, too.

Well no one held them at gunpoint to offer and sign the agreement in the first place. And they left the program that they are allegedly “supporting” high and dry with no QB in their signing class due to how poorly they handled it.

The whole thing is pretty baffling. I have no idea what the end game was for the Gator Collective.

Makes me wonder if any other player(s) is / are getting that kinda money. If so, college sports is at a serious crossroad IMO. Even Stevie Wonder can see how much additional revenue is being generated these days in pro sports due to rules that created much more parity. Even a staunch conservative believer in free market capitalism like me can see how socialism in sports is a win win.

Maintaining healthy competition requires an active government hand. It's not just sports. :p

The NCAA making an example out of them would be the NCAA signing its own death warrant.

I’m just here for the fireworks either way.
Boosters still cannot influence recrootin. It’s very obvious that this was not NIL and was an inducement for a recruit to come to Florida.

That’s against the rules and the NCAA can levy punishment.

They are all obvious recruiting inducements. That’s the whole point. NIL is a farce for all but a very small handful of athletes who have wide name recognition and influence, and some of those aren’t even revenue sport athletes (like the gymnast for LSU). Some 4* defensive tackle from bumfuck Louisiana isn’t adding 6+ figures in annual revenue to any local business that he chooses to retweet, but he still gets paid that by Bama / LSU / etc. NCAA isn’t going to go after UF because they’d have to go after 17ing everybody. And then they’d get sued.

Maybe the NCAA can set up a NIL clearinghouse, where they approve NIL deals.

I don't see it as being insane because I don't think they ever intended on paying him this. They just lied.

This is what I am thinking. The player or more likely his handlers got played .... instead of paid.

I think the Miami NIL deal was going to
Wasn't there some other drama about that time with another recruit? In the opposite direction. Maybe I'm wrong.

I'm just trying to think what would motivate UF people to flip this kid and leave him high and dry. Just seems intentional to me.

But why lie to the kid or play the kid, his handler, and the UF coaching staff? What is gained? None of it makes sense. They are an organization aimed at supporting UF athletics that is trying its best to burn UF football to the ground.

I’m not much of a fan of the NCAA and their inconsistent rules, but it would be good for everyone if they banned fan collectives. It’s a damn joke. The players are not selling their name, image, or likeness with these deals. They are not advertising for a company. They aren’t putting their name on a jersey or in a video game. It is nothing more than expecting fans to buy players for the school. Plus, it’s insanity to think the collectives are not working in concert with the coaching staffs to make these deals to recruits.

Whoever came up with the collective idea first should be drawn and quartered.

Also, get off my lawn.

This is why the NCAA wants there to be separation between the collectives and the schools. Now the NCAA doesn’t have jurisdiction to do anything about it. UF won’t get in any trouble outside of some bad press. It’s a clown show.

I agree with everything you say. It's all bizarre. None of it makes sense. The only explanation I can come up with is that those numbers are complete horseshit.

If this is accurate and an adult human, or group of adult humans, agreed to this, I'm doubly depressed that I'm not smart enough to make the kind of money that would allow me to make these stupid decisions. How could a person amass enough wealth, short of a lottery win, AND be stupid enough to do this with that money?

I am right there with you, chief. My butthole puckers up when I have buy a set of tires for my truck and these people are throwing around money like this as if it were nothing. Hell, I'm just trying to get enough patreon supporters for our storm chase team to cover gas money when I go out and chase. I live in a completely different world than these people.

Two parts here....

1) On the humans or group of humans who can make this money? Yes, I agree with you, it is certainly depressing to us common folk.

2) Why would they do it once they had it? It's like Mama Gump said, there's only so much fortune a man really needs. Which is why I can't understand why all our professional athletes aren't donating back to MSU.

This is why they will never see a dime from me.

I can understand a local business owner hiring a player to market his business. But what you described above makes no sense to me.
