That would be nice.Next year, 1st National championship!
Congrats, coach!
The next closest guy is David Shaw - who was actually ahead of Franklin for a while, but Stanford has really dropped off the radar the last few years.Congrats to Coach Franklin ... and that's a crazy factoid.
Not sure what has happened at Stanford. But the shine really has come off Shaw's star at this point. The next closest guy is David Shaw - who was actually ahead of Franklin for a while, but Stanford has really dropped off the radar the last few years.
Shaw has 96 wins.
They started to decline before Covid, so I agree.....not sure what happened. Too bad though - they had a pretty solid team/program for a while. Not sure what has happened at Stanford. But the shine really has come off Shaw's star at this point.
Stanford understands that it will have down years due to handicaps it faces with recruiting. However, four consecutive down years enters the realm of the unacceptable. Shaw gets a pass (to a certain degree) for Covid and being "family." He pissed a lot of that away by kicking an utterly meaningless FG in the waning seconds of the game against Cal last Saturday. They started to decline before Covid, so I agree.....not sure what happened. Did you ever wonder how the hell John Elway would have gotten a sniff from Stanford if his dad was not the coach at the time? I mean, I get he is a high ranking NFL Executive now.....but he is not on the same level as Luck academically.Stanford understands that it will have down years due to handicaps it faces with recruiting. Your question re John Elway is moot because his father, Jack, wasn't the coach a Stanford during the years John was there. He was at San Jose St,, which iirc beat Stanford at least twice, during John's years at The Farm. Took over in Palo Alto after John graduated.Did you ever wonder how the hell John Elway would have gotten a sniff from Stanford if his dad was not the coach at the time? If you know the story behind "We Are" it makes this all the more special. I know that we're all supposed to hate ourselves for the real and imagined issues of certain days gone by, but PSU has been at the tip of the spear in racial equality in college athletics for a very long time.
I would be proud, if I was allowed.
That's not the story behind "We Are" but your point remains a good one. The Wally Triplett story is a good one, it's just not the source of the "We Are" mantra. If you know the story behind "We Are" it makes this all the more special. At $9.25M a year, Shaw is not sweating much….Not sure what has happened at Stanford. But the shine really has come off Shaw's star at this point.
Um maybe because the guy who grew the program is now taking a team perhaps to the cfp for the second year? Not sure what has happened at Stanford. But the shine really has come off Shaw's star at this point.
Harbaugh quickly brought them to prominence ... in 4 years they went from 1-11 before he got there to 12-1 in the year he left ... but Shaw's been there for 12 years now, and they were 10-3 6 years after Harbaugh left. And still 9-4 8 years after. There's something else.Um maybe because the guy who grew the program is now taking a team perhaps to the cfp for the second year?

Stanford doesn’t play the portal game and my guess is they do very little with NIL. They’re way behind the times programmatically speaking.
Chip Kelly going to ucla and as well as Oregon and usc may have something to do with it as well. More competition to get good players.Harbaugh quickly brought them to prominence ... in 4 years they went from 1-11 before he got there to 12-1 in the year he left ... but Shaw's been there for 12 years now, and they were 10-3 6 years after Harbaugh left. He would need to average 10 wins a year and coach until he was 81 to break Joe’s record. That’s only 31 more years!!!!Franklin is on his way to 409!
no one should coach past 70- Joe shouldn't have, eitherHe would need to average 10 wins a year and coach until he was 81 to break Joe’s record. That’s only 31 more years!!!!

Thanks for sharing that irrelevant, untrue "fact."1 and I visited Stanford and saw lucks last home game (lost to Oregon) it’s pretty damn spectacular
Also, congrats to James Franklin. Amazing that he’s the first African American FBS coach to 100 wins.
Oregon had too much speed and sitting in the end zone we were surprised how wide O oline spreads were. Started our visits at UCLA then spent the weekend in San Fran with aunt Joanne and bob and also visited CAL CAL was nastyThanks for sharing that irrelevant, untrue "fact."
