Because I don't think he will be a starting NBA point guard (although that might not define success for him) and I think he was really getting better and better -- that whole mid-air jumping jack thing included.

I would have liked to have seen our team next year with Jamoney on it. I would have liked that team.

1. Dont you think that if Jamont comes back it will be to MAINLY to increase his draft prospects? That combined with the absence of Chuck, will mean that Jamont will feel compelled to be instead of 75%, to be 95% of our offense?
2. Do you think that one man team mentality will have a realistic chance of making it to the NCAA's?
3. Dont you feel like that if we cant make the NCAA's that our time would be better spent developing whoever is going be the NEXT focal point of Stans so called offensive philosophy? You know the one where you find one guy, run the offense through him, and everyone else rebounds and plays defense?

Because I have a feeling you got two years till Swat gets a platiumum engraved invitation to the NBA. Do you want to spend one of those next two years helping Jamont improve his non existant first round draft prospects followed by a year of developing Osby?
Why not go directly to developing Osby as the go to guy and try and use Swats last year on a NCAA run?

1. How is 17 pts/game for Jamont out of 73 pts/game for the team = 75% of the offense? How is Jamont being one of four starters to average double digit pts/game = 75% of our offense? This extreme exaggeration that Jamont was our entire offense this season is played out.

2. This so called one man mentality got us to the NCAA tourney this year, right? After all, he was 75% of our offense according to you.

3. Again, four starters averaging double digit points is not the one man focal point offense you make it out to be. Stans offense is not the most complex or creative in the world by any means, but in the last 10 years or so, we have had only one season in which we did not have at least 3 starters averaging double digit points. I have not checked this, but I would be willing to bet you would be hard pressed to find many collegiate teams where all 5 starters average double digit points per game. Typically, players on the team have roles. It is not the job of everyone to be a prolific scorer. There are usually players that are the rebounders, defenders, hustlers for loose balls, shot blockers, etc. (Joey Dorsey comes to mind. BTW, Memphis had only 2 starters avg double digit points/game).
Because I have a feeling you got two years till Swat gets a platiumum engraved invitation to the NBA.
Regardless of whether he gets this invitation, he is gone from MSU in two years anyway since he will graduate.

Gordon took 24% of the teams shots and accounted for 23% of its points. It hardly seems that he was the ballhog the JRs of the world make him out to be.

Throw in his 6 rebounds, his 5 assists per game and it looks like we're probably losing a superstar player. Only at State can this possibly be a good thing. Only at at State.

I hope the above quote finally puts that ******** story down that nobody else but Jamont was part of our offense. I think JR should give up college ball and stick to academy high school ball.

call me crazy but I really enjoy it when we have a chance to go to the Tourney.

Its not like his return would set us back for the years after that either b/c Rick has never exactly been Pete Carril.

I prefer the more politically correct "unorothodox"
Secondly you cant have it both ways, if Jamont only represents 17 point per game to the team, than losing him wont be a bigger impact than losing the Delks, and we went to the NCAA without them.

It can never be won, just like eggbowl.com arguments. Jamont did some good things, and he did some bad things. I personally am on the fence about him. I saw him win some games for us and I saw him screw up some games for us. We will find out next year how much, for better or worse, he meant to our team.

I have a feeling that we won't be able to take the 2nd best team in the country down to the wire next year. So it's fair to say he did more good than bad.

but you fail again.

Reg Delk: 9.5 pts/game
Rich Delk: 5.7 pts/game

for a grand total of 15.2 points/game which is 2 pts/game less than Jamont this year. So two players scoring 15/game combined <<<< one player scoring 17/game. Furthermore, Jamont is our experienced point guard and the only SR leader on the team for next season.

Apples to oranges comparison.

We have no more need of evidence, you have just provided us with ample supply. When we lose Jamont we won't just be losing 17 points per game. If you had any understand of college basketball you would know that. We will also be losing the only proven guy on our team that can consistently bring the ball up the court under pressure, the only nightmare matchup for our opponents on the offensive end of the court, the only guy on our team that can create his own shot and shots for others consistently, and a heck of a good rebounder and defender. Some people on this board love to talk about how Jamont is a ball hog and all he does is score points, but that is a huge myth. The facts say that Jamont did many things for this team for which we have no proven replacement. He created scoring opportunities for himself and others, rebounded, defended, gave the opposition headaches in terms of matchups, yet you geniuses refer to him as a ball hog and say we won't miss him. I guarantee you our opponents this year will be happy if he leaves. Mark my words, midway through the season after he leaves, whether that be this next season or the season after, all the things he did for us will become obvious to everyone because we don't have anyone that will fill his shoes. If we lose Jamont you can kiss the NCAA Tournament goodbye.

Your post is on the mark. Our opponents will be relieved that they don't have to defend Jamont Gordon. Most of the SEC coaches during the 2007-08 season expressed the opinion that Gordon was the best player in the SEC.

Of course that has no bearing on whether he will be back next year or not.... but at least he's back in Starkville.

but we have guys who can score. That's why Rick recruited them. Everyone is shitting their pants because we're losing a lot of guys, but nobody knows what the players coming back are truly capable of. Most of them haven't had the opportunities to put up numbers like they have the potential to put up. I don't expect any of them to put up Jamont numbers, but we should be extremely balanced next year. We'll play team ball. We'll win games.

There's no way Randy has a bad junior year. It was a textbook sophomore slump. It happens to the best of 'em. Now he ain't the best, but he'll be steady next year. Guys like Z-man and Bowers were NOT all-world their first two years. We'll have the best defender in the country, and two explosive, tall, wing players in Ravern and Kodi. Osby is by all accounts the real deal, and we should have some decent depth inside with BJ and Bailey.

With Ben already gone and Phil Turner and Jamont possibly leaving, we could be pretty thin at the guard position, but Rick will put a decent five out there this year. Inexperienced, but talented.

Yeah, Augustus looked pretty explosive this year. Wait, no he didn't. He may end up being a good player, but I don't think there's any reason to exhale in relief over him filling the void left by Jamont. On the other hand, you are right about Ravern showing flashes of being that type of player in the future.

Forget the points, assists, ball handling, and defense....Jamont is one strong dude. His strength...IS his strength. At least that's what the professional broadcaster told me.

But the question marks are huge. We'll see what''s on the floor and what it does.

I do share you faith in Rick, and I do appreciate the accomplishments, excitement, and great compettion our teams and fans have enjoyed with him as our coach. But Jamont leaving leaves a huge void to fill. I'll be impressed if we are as happy next season as we have been this season, which, recall, has not been all happiness.

Yes because we all know the SEC POY is always the best player in the conference.

Note: I'm not saying Jamont was the best player in the SEC this season, just saying that trophy doesn't always signify who is the best. Often times it goes to a player on the best team.

So, you are saying that Vandy was the best team in the SEC this year?
Nice argument Storm...Not...

I see things never change on here...

Jamont was one of the top 5 players in the SEC, but clearly not the best point guard...
He better be taking a foreign language class this semester b/c he will need to know one or two if he goes pro.

Did you miss this part of my post: "Often times it goes to a player on the best team." Often = not every year but most years. I'll break it down further since you lack reading comprehension and basic vocabulary: when I said "often time it goes to a player on the best team" that doesn't necessarily mean that was the case this year.

Some of you are just too stupid to post on here.

So you are telling me that you were not insinuating that Jamont was the best player in the SEC?

If not, then what was the purpose of your post??

Talk about stupid?

"So you are telling me that you were not insinuating that Jamont was the best player in the SEC?"

If you read my post you would have seen this: "I'm not saying Jamont was the best player in the SEC this season". I don't know much clearer I could make it. Again, your reading comprehension is terrible.

As for the purpose of my post, again you don't read and comprehend. You stated that if Jamont was really the best player in the league he would have gotten POY. I simply stated that the POY is not always always the best overall player. Often times (not always) they take a player off the best team. Sometimes that guy is the best player and sometimes another player has a better case.

I'm interested in knowing who you thought was a better point guard in the SEC this year. I can't think of one. I can think of maybe a better player but not a PG.

I'd rather have Chris Warren. He's younger.

Ding.. Ding...
Cowtown
wins $10.

18.4 pts , 5.4 ***, 3.2 steals per game..

Let's look at the All-SEC Team, and Downey is the point guard not Jamont.
FYI.. for all you Haters.... Jamont is listed as a G-F (Guard / Forward) hence he is a Tweener...
