With the Saints, the Favre-led Vikings, and American's Team all in the playoffs. Throw in some SEC basketball, a possible Matt Holliday/Scott Boras/St. Louis Cardinal pissing contest and you've got topics for a good month.

and probably pay for it later.... but the Cardinals have Matt Holliday locked up. There's no market for the guy. The Red Sox offered him less than the Cardinals did, and Boras turned it down... The Mets are hard after Bay.... and Yankees don't want to spend the money this year. The Cardinals are probably going to have Holliday on board before January, so this will be scratched off your topics list before all of you clowns kiss your sisters on New Years.

And for another crazy prediction that you guys can baste me for next fall... Brad Penny will win 15 games in Cardinal Red this coming season.

would pay Holliday more than Albert Pujols. Of course, that will probably change next year since Pujols contract is up.

I think Penny was a good pick up to, for what the Cardinals want him to be- which is a third/fourth starter behind Carpenter, Wainwright, and Lohse. I am a little aprehensive about Jamie Garcia being the fifth starter, and I'm a little bit concerned about Ryan Franklin as the closer. LaRussa likes closers like Franklin, but I prefer power arm guys like Jason Motte- who has a cannon. Motte was inconsistent last year, but he was also a rookie, and I'm looking for him to improve a good bit.

but I worry Boras will keep it going so long the Cards lose out on him and DeRosa.

The market is gone. I heard/read Baltimore had or was going to make an offer, but they aint gonna throw huge dollars and he doesnt want to play for a loser and in the AL East. The Cards are going to get him for about 16 million at 5 years and maybe some options.

And on Penny, If he stays healthy he will be gravy behind Carp/Wainwright. Thats a big if. But if Dunc can get him to start pitching to contact a little more and save that great fastball for when he really needs it, he might push 15-18 wins. Thats the diffrence with Carp from several years ago. Throw that cutter to induce the groundballs and keeps the pitch count down, which in effect, gives them more chances to control the game, instead of leaving after 5 innings and 110 pitches and handing it over to the bullpen.

that the Cardinals will be able to resign both DeRosa and Holliday. So, I agree that if it gets drug out, it could be a huge issue. My hope is that the Cardinals GM Moziliak (sp) knows what the market is and does what he needs to do to not royally screw up the roster. I was losing confidence in him until midseason last year when he made some moves to get Holliday, DeRosa and Smoltz.

versus Pujols.... and Pujols' contract has a club option for 2011, for around 11 million... and STL will more than likely pick it up.

I kind of wish, if they get Holliday locked up, to go ahead and offer Pujols his next contract now, and adjust his current salary to be higher than Hollidays'... so the pecking order is clearly established. I want Pujols to retire in Cardinal red, and I hope his next contract gaurantees that.

I think it was Joe Strauss who had a an article in the postdispatch and he thought there was a chance. Derosa has stated that he isnt gonna wait on a plan B to sign, and prefers to be inked by Christmas. I think if Mo would offer Derosa 2 years, 16million and maybe a club option then he would sign. Like we have stated there is no market for Holliday. If the Cards are going to get him the offer is gonna be 16ish ayear, but no more than 18 a year. That would give the Cards both for about 24 the next 2 years, which is about what it looked like it was going to take just to get Holliday last offseason.

Albert has done stated that as long as he sees the Cards trying to put a winning team on the field, then he isnt going to chase the dollars somewhere else. If he is satisified and sees players in place to be a contender the next 5 years or so, he will get an extention next summer. It will be somewhere in the ranger of 6-7 years and 120-130 million, (somewhere between 20-25per) with a good portion of it deferred,

but it's kind of like Dumb and Dumber- One in a million. But there's STILL a chance.

I don't think there's any way that the Cardinals could afford both of them.

IF it happened, it would be because DeRosa couldn't get what he wanted and had to sign with St. Louis for a lot less than his asking price. I don't think that will happen.
