Recall in the early 1980s (82 or 83), I was in grad school at Arizona State Univ. after earning my BS from PSU. Went to a Thirsty Thursday minor league baseball game of the Phoenix Giants. Fifty cent beers and a free Jimmy Buffett concert in the outfield after the game. Made me a lifelong fan.

Condolences to all parrotheads. It wasn’t my jam but as a lifelong Deadhead, I understood the scene completely. I always thought that the Dead should have toured with Buffet in the days of the Dead stadium summer tours just to see the mashup in the parking lots.

I know he is not well respected for his music, but he really wrote some incredible stuff.
Songs that took you places. He was my favorite musician by a wide margin. While I have been singing and playing instruments since I was 5 years old, Jimmy was my inspiration for learning guitar and becoming a gigging solo musician.
It was Jimmy's music that inspired me to visit the Keys the first time, a place that Ive now had a 30 year love affair with.
Some people write music, some people write books.
Jimmy Buffett created a lifestyle.
RIP Jimmy

Saw Jimmy….George Strait and Alan Jackson in concert together at the old Cowboys Stadium Irving Texas…May of 2004. 60,000 fans….beautiful warm sunny day. Excellent concert ….sat in the 5th row floor. At the rear of the stadium floor was a bunch of frozen margarita machines. Thank God the wife and I hired a car service for the day…..we saw Jimmy 7 times during his time. Each concert was fun as heck….met lots of people. There were no strangers at his concerts.

My wife and I were just tallying up how many shows we were at, think it was 8. Adults getting to be kids for a day, will miss those days and Jimmy, sadsad day.....
Probably about the same for me and the wife, but I did do my first 2 shows before I met her.
Funny story....the first words my wife ever spoke to me were "Buffett sucks". I was standing at the stereo at a birthday party and a Buffett CD was playing. I educated her though and she's been a fan ever since.

So true, and rather stunning now to think that no one will ever again have a first Buffet experience live. The world will be worse off for it :(
My 10 year old nephew who lives in Phoenix is a huge Buffet fan and just attended his first concert about two months ago. The tickets were a birthday present, and the family did the whole parrot head thing. He will wake up to some tough news today.

For me, I always said that there were two reasons I married my wife. She knew all the words to I want to get drunk and screw, and she knew what the infield fly rule was. We’ve been married 43 years.

A lot of friends of mine have told me I’m their hero because I moved to Florida from DC 22 years ago but continued to run my practice up there from my home and go to “Margaritaville” every day at 4PM. But Jimmy has been the beacon of my life since way before that and my hero. My last goal in life is to move to a Margaritaville community. The only reason I subscribe to Sirius is to listen to his station. I’m devastated today even though I’m older than he was. RIP Jimmy. See ya soon.

Godspeed...and thanks for, well, just being a happy person and sharing it with others. I will miss you, and smile when I think about your life.

Saw him in the late 70s at Mann Music Center in Philadelphia as a little boy. He was amazing. People like to take shots at him, but you go back and listen to all his early music and he wrote some beautiful lyrics and music. Take a listen to Radio Margaritaville today as I have an am astounded at the great lyrics and music also the tributes pouring out to him. Saw him many times including down here in FL at Delray Beach a year ago. On top of it all he took many young artists under his wing like Kenny Chesney. He was an amazing businessman as well with net worth over $1 Billion dollars. RIP Jimmy and Sail On Sailor.
