Shut up. Cohen brought us a national title. It didn’t work long term, Lemonis’ crootin strategy didn’t fit MSU. Alright. He will be fired this year if there isn’t a miraculous turnaround, duh.

I would not trade it.
Please explain how Cohen brought us a national title?

He’s still, statistically, the worst baseball coach in Msstate history. Someone will have to check the stats to see if it is possible Lemonis will surpass him.

It’s clear he is the worst AD in Msstate history. Enjoy Auburn!
He ran off Vic and Mullen. Hired Cann and Moorhead. And, on top of all that, his formerly sanctimonious *** is now the boss of both Bruce Pearl and Hugh Freeze.

17 this piece of human garbage.

Whether we believe the "official" story (Vic wanted to be closer to his family) or what's widely rumored (Title IX violation), Vic leaving had nothing to do with who the AD was.
Care to provide proof other than your speculation?

I get that some of yall have personal reasons to dislike Cohen, but you shouldn't post blatantly false things. Vic and Mullen would have left had Stricklin still been in charge, or any other AD.
You are clueless about Vic… He never wanted to leave.

What was the rumored title IX violation? Unless that’s euphemism, that’s not the prevalent rumor. It was about fraternization between a staffer and former teammate and Cohen handling it about as incompetently as he handled Leach’s tweet about wives getting tired of their husbands in quarantine.

Is fraternization the new code word for 17ing?

Florida hired Stricklin specifically to get Mullen back. There was nothing Cohen could have done.

That's the Title IX violation. If the rumors are true (and they probably are, given how many people say so), Cohen's hands were tied, just like Stricklin's would have been if he had never left, or other ADs' have been at other schools.

Are we slap fighting about why the women's basketball coach who's daughter/asst coach was playing rug munchies with a student athlete while said coach was praising the Lord constantly and the biggest carpetbagging one foot out the door football coach in SEC history left for Texas and Florida respectively? (World class run on sentence there..)

I'm no Cohen lover, but damnit man... Who was going to stop those two things from happening?

I don't give a crap who did it. I only care about who can fix it and that aint Cohen.

I would like to see us steal Butch from him but why would he want to leave a better situation for our crap show?

Vic was building a home in Starkville. Now maybe, thr Texas AD stil him with a huge offer, but you don't walk away from an under construction home to be closer to deceased relatives graves. There was definitely a riff and the veil was ripped from floor to ceiling and out the door he went.
So…..he would have taken the Southern Miss job, or the NC State job, or the Florida International job….just because he hated Cohen?

It’s amazing to me there are fans who defend John Cohen after all the dumbass **** he did while AD. You are either ignorant or incredibly misinformed.

Who is defending Cohen’s performance as AD in this thread?

Saying that every single negative thing that happened to MSU athletics while Cohen was AD was not necessarily his doing is not equivalent to defending Cohen.

I’m no Cohen lover. He neglected NIL, overemphasized baseball to the detriment of other sports and made some bad coaching hires. But you really can’t blame Vic leaving on him. If a coach is 17ing one of his/her own players, that coach should be fired. That is a complete ethics violation. If Vic got his feelings hurt and left because Cohen wanted to rightfully fire his daughter, then that’s on him.

No, but there are two factions within the MSU fanbase. Well, three.

1) Mouth-breathing battalion. These folks want to copy Alabama and RuN dA bAwL and generally stay the same that we've always done. Oh, they'll bltch, but they'll blame coaches, players, administration over and over, never thinking about why the lack of success continues to occur.
2) Outside the box thinkers. We want to maximize our strengths and minimize our weaknesses, in realistic ways. Cohen was one of these, as am I. We want plans, strategies, etc. that we can execute and shorten the gaps with the big money schools.
3) The folks who support because that's what they do. They don't really care about success or failure, they are just MSU people.

No matter how hard you try, you're not going to stop the Cohen haters from hating Cohen. Give it up. He was not our best AD, but he was not the devil people making out to be. Especially when it comes to Vic Schaeffer. it brought him back to Texas, and that would happen no matter what once the offer was made. Texas buys anything they want to. Give them a few years in the Southeastern Conference, and you'll understand what I'm saying.

And lets not fail to mention that hiring his daughter was a dumb 17ing move in the first place that invited all sorts of different conflicts of interest. There’s no hire that’s worse than a nepotism hire. Hard to imagine that the most qualified person for that spot on the staff just so happened to be his daughter….who was groomed for the role by working at a damn local news station.

Vic thought he was bigger than the program by making a hire like that. To me, that’s writing on the wall that things were probably about to head downhill even if he stuck around.

An employee and a student 17ing consensually isn't a Title IX violation. It's an incredibly bad idea and (and presumably against MSU policy) and can lead to Title IX issues if somebody abuses their authority and is probably relatively likely to give rise to nuisance suits even when they don't do anything to violate Title IX.

I figured the universe was telling us it was over when we couldn't beat Notre Dame. Up 15 points and we lose that m17ing game. That was the end for Vic, IMO. It was just a matter of time until he left at that point.
