When I really stop and think about what Cohen has done for Kentucky baseball, it is truly amazing. It is unbelievable. Think about Kentuckys baseball past. Now think about how competitive the SEC is today in baseball. If you can win at Kentucky today, then it tells me that you could make MSU a power in the years to come. Not to mention that he is one of the best YOUNG coaches in the nation and, he's an alumni. One would think that it's a no-brainer, hopefully not even state could mess this hire up. It's not like we would be trying to pull a top coach from another program with no ties to MSU. I feel Cohen would jump at this opportunity and not look back. I have to believe that when Cohen began his coaching career that his ultimate goal was to lead the dogs. He of all people knows how much potential our program has. It is realistic in thinking there is potential to have 8,000 fans at a Friday night game, and I'm not sure that any other program in the nation can make that claim.

but we also need to make sure that we look at other qualified candidates in case Cohen doesn't take the job.

We just don't need to make the mistake of this being Cohen or Raffo thing.

It is a chance that Cohen tells us thanks but no thanks, and if we do not make a thorough search then Raffo could get the job by default. We need to have a qualified list and Raffo should not even be in our top 5. I am in no way attacking Raffo, bc he is without a doubt an MSU man with the best intentions for MSU. I respect Raffo and like him as a person, although I would have more fun hanging out with my 9 month old niece than him. His recruiting skills probably scare me more than his coaching skills, bc I feel that state should be able to pull ball players on a national level. I just don't think he can go out and get recruits that did not grow up state fans. Also, it is time for a whole new staff to shake things up.

I pretty much feel the same way. I don't necessarily dislike Raffo, but I very much dislike what has been going on with the baseball team since Ron II. I remember when he first came back, a lot of people said that he had "the fire" back again. Unfortunately, Polk has proven me right so far with the exception of the 05 SEC Tournament and the 07 Regionals/SR.

I was around during the glory years and I remember how the stadium would be packed out for an SEC weekend and how we felt that we had a chance to win every game and were a step ahead of most everyone. Now we're a step behind.

If I'm remembering correctly, I think in 2005 Kentucky went something like 7-22 in SEC play. And that type of performance had become the norm for UK baseball. In 2006, they hosted a regional. That's an amazing turnaround. They fell hard and fast last season to miss the NCAA tourney, but they still were a much better team than usual last year. He has done a great job at UK and would do a good job at MSU.

is that while he played at MSU and is "one of us", by the same token, his entire coaching career and methodology has been developed APART from the contaminations of the lackadaisacal stylings of one Ron Polk. We don't really need a low key coach right now like a Raffo type guy would give us. We need somebody with some fire and drive to excel to come in and give this program some life, NOT a "that's baseball" kind of attitude you would get from a guy who's been mothered by Ron Polk for nearly 20 years. If Cohen is not interested, we should look to guys like Smith, Kennison or McDonnell well before considering ANYONE on our current staff.

I have already informed the AD that I am going to pull my support from the program if he even thinks about hiring Cohen. I told him that he better pray that I don't catch wind of any secret conversations or water cooler talk regarding the hiring of this man or my JBC donation will end and my season ticket purchase will cease.
This isn't a threat. This is a promise.

While I agree w/ this statement:
He of all people knows how much potential our program has. It is realistic in thinking there is potential to have 8,000 fans at a Friday night game, and I'm not sure that any other program in the nation can make that claim.
I am curious as to how much credit you give to LT for helping to create and develope the baseball program w/ the second smallest budget in the SEC. I always read about him not doing this or that for football or basketball. Just curious.

Not saying that Cohen should be it...but not even talked about? Are you Polk or Raffo in disguise? I also think there are 6000+ Bulldog Club members that want a true search including Cohen to see who the best coach for MSU is.

Who do you recommend then? Why are you so adamantly opposed to Cohen? Since you obviously have some "insider" information on him to hate him so much fill us all in...we enjoy making intelligent decisions.

Edited to add : Alright, I fell for it. The guy said Junior Bulldog Club and season tickets. What a twisted sense of sarcasm.

I don't think he wants anyone but Raffo. When he said that he had already emailed the AD and threatened to stop his support, that really made me laugh. Who the hell is this guy? Is it one of the Bryan brothers or something? To make statements like that, you better have your name on some campus structure.

1) LT didn't want to hire Jackie. He also didn't have the stones to fire Jackie. That was Zacharias. And where was stadium expansion when we needed it during the height of that era?

2) The baseball program was built and maintained by Polk, honestly, until he left the first time. Our tradition was built in the 70's and taken to a new level in the 80's by Polk.

3) Not to mention his relationship with Stansbury. I can't remember his relationship with Richard Williams.

He gets some credit. But we should be far advanced past where we are now. He just flat out turns fans off of the program for the benefit of a few.

when LT took over as AD we had been to 3 CWS and within 1 game of 2 others in 8 years. Since then. we've been to 4 CWS and within 1 game of 1 other in 22 years.
