It was fitting that the rains let up about an hour before the service for Johnie yesterday. The room packed with a who's who of former players that wore the Maroon & White and some from the NFL that I didn't recognize.
Wiley Peck came up from Montgomery "to say goodbye to his friend, Johnie". Another true friend in a total different sport. I thought that said a lot.
Al Groh spoke. He was the outside linebacker coach for the NY Giants when Johnie was there. His group included 3 draft choices from the first 3 rounds of the draft.
LT, Carl Banks, and Johnie. Coach Groh said sometimes he would just sit back and watch them banter back n forth before getting down to business in their meetings. Groh received a text from Bill Parcels, it read, "Man, I loved that guy."
