Football- also duh. Stoops makes substantially more than almost everyone in the country who's profession is the same as him (he was top 10 overall, if not still) and the employer that is happily paying your salary would be more than content if you could manage to average a 7 win year. Sprinkle a 8-9-10 win season in there occasionally and they'll never get rid of you. Top 10 money with bottom 10 expectations is a cushy pillow job for anyone there are very very few "serious" football teams where mark stoops still has a job after 13 years.

That is using the assumption that he could not have succeeded at a higher level at one of the "serious" football schools. Logic insists he would have done much better but just how much better is a mystery we just can't answer.

No. That egregious feature of his previous contract went away with his current contract. Unfortunately the huge buyout is the bigger issue.
But it’s not too late for this mystery to be solved!
Florida will soon have an opening and — without a doubt — Scott Stricklin and Jimmy Sexton have already been in preliminary discussions to bring Stoops’ version of the Fun ‘n’ Gun to Gainesville.
if only “The Cuban Missile” had an eighth collegiate season available to him …
