“Short memory,” very good.I give him a lot of credit. His confidence along with his short memory are excellent attributes for a secondary player. He was frustrating early but he just seems to know he's better than the other guy.
They were in zone coverage for some of those, not all jpj faultHmmm. I could only watch the 1st half. Charlie Jones was lining up opposite him and seemed like JPJ was playing soft and Jones had no problem getting open. JPJ must have gotten more serious in the 2nd half.
I’d say both teams were guilty of this.He certainly got away with lots of tugs and bumps
And penalties will be called on both teams for doing that against Michigan and Ohio State ... oh wait, I mean against the team who does it against Michigan and Ohio State.I’d say both teams were guilty of this.

I think Ray Isom would've shut that crap down in a hurry.I like the Porter family and generally think JPJ is a very good player but why does he and every other DB have a choreographed celebration after routine plays? That’s not PSU football and until we start shutting teams down like the 87 Fiesta Bowl defense I don’t think we need it.
I'm fine with a little celebrating but doing it when you're behind and don't have the momentum in the game just looks stupid.I like the Porter family and generally think JPJ is a very good player but why does he and every other DB have a choreographed celebration after routine plays? Fixed.I'm fine with a little celebrating but doing it when you're behind and don't have the momentum in the game just looks stupid. Worse, it shows a lack of focus.
While attending a PS coaches’ clinic, Tom Bradley said he teaches his DB’s to ”give them the business” until it gets called.I was keeping a running tally during the game and I had him being targeted 14 times and Purdue coming out on the positive side of those targets 6 times (catch or penalty). He didn't get off to a very good start but got stronger and more physical as the game went on. I think @Phlebitis hit the nail on the head with the 'short memory' comment. He's going to get matched up against the best WR (even though announcers said last night that Diaz doesn't flip the field with his corners) and he's going to get targeted multiple times. If it's a 'smart' penalty where he's beat and has to interfere to prevent a catch and long gain, fine. But the tugs and the bumps and stuff are going to get called more often than not. Like others, I wish he'd stop with the theatrics. Just play ball. You can celebrate a big 3rd down stop or a turnover but all this other business, especially when you're getting beat, is just ridiculous.
Exactly. I can’t understand why everybody’s making such a big deal about him playing so physical. That’s how every other defensive back in the country plays. Watch Alabama, watch Georgia, watch Ohio State, it’s how their guys play, many are top draft picks. While attending a PS coaches’ clinic, Tom Bradley said he teaches his DB’s to ”give them the business” until it gets called.

That's just the way the college game has evolved to. Look at the way Pitt played PSU in that 4 game series, and the way they continue to play. Their coaches coach their DB's to bump and tug until it gets called. And it's only a 15 yard penalty which is really only giving up the yardage of an average reception where as the tugging and bumping ends up breaking up lots of potential receptions. For me, I'm happy that our coaches are finally coaching our DB' to be aggressive enough to prevent some receptions with "incidental" contact...... Given the aggressive nature that Diaz has coached defense over the years, he likely had a lot to do with how our DB's played against Purdue. Hope it continues.....He certainly got away with lots of tugs and bumps
And if I was planning to attend an away game in a hostile environment I'd try and sit near JPJ's old man, as he doesn't take **** from anyone either.......He has a Mel Blount attitude
Trey Bauer would have helpedI think Ray Isom would've shut that crap down in a hurry.
Nice to see John Paul Jones on stage today for the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert. The man still has it.
From an article on interesting stats from the game, on the SI PSU site:
16: Passes broken up by Penn State's defense (per updated box score released Saturday). It marked a school record and the most in an FBS game since 2018. Joey Porter Jr. also set a school record with 6

How did the Lions defeat Purdue 35-31? These numbers tell the story.www.si.com
Yeah, but the majority of the tugs were on yourself. So did I.
And targetingYeah, but the majority of the tugs were on yourself.
Im not sure if he had him but the transfer guy from iowa had 13 catches all time coming into the game and left with 15 more.He will end his PSU career on the PSU Mt Rushmore of defensive backs. The question is….Is he the best ever?
