I'm going to be feeling this one on Wednesday. The hills were extra bumpy this time out.

I grew up saying ‘sled riding’ too but should it be ‘sledding’? Is it a PA thing?
I've been sledding most of my life (don't think I've done it in the last 10 years). In all that time, everyone I knew called it "sledding." The only person I ever met that called it "sled riding" was a kid that moved into the area from either Western PA or Ohio (I can't recall which one).
The Gambits, and all their friends, call it sled riding.I've been sledding most of my life (don't think I've done it in the last 10 years). In all that time, everyone I knew called it "sledding." Right. If you ride a horse, is it horsing?
You’re not going for a car drive, you’re driving. It’s sled riding. Just like you don’t say sleighing, you say sleigh ride.
Bravo and nobody can ever question Pooh and his gang !
I often say to my wife, "let's go for a drive."You’re not going for a car drive, you’re driving.
How about a car ride. Or do you go caring? You’re not going for a car drive, you’re driving.

Different than a “car drive” though.I often say to my wife, "let's go for a drive."
Hmmmmm…. Interesting. I guess if you’re behind the wheel your driving. If you’re in the passenger seat you’re going for a ride. If you’re on your own sled/sleigh you’re sledding. Otherwise, you’re going going for a sleigh ride. How about a car ride. Or do you go caring?
As opposed to Western Pa folks who can’t pronounce any other word.Sledding. Brought to you by the eastern PA folks who can't pronounce "water" and throw snowballs at Santa.
I grew up in Altoona. Home of Mike Reid, John Ebersole, Brent Pry. Galen Hall. Ed Flanagan. Kevin Givens and Brad Benson..We said "sled riding".I've been sledding most of my life (don't think I've done it in the last 10 years). In all that time, everyone I knew called it "sledding." Despite the entertainment quotient provided by the Yinzer vocabulary in this thread, upon what snow-friendly vehicle did you actually ride?I'm going to be feeling this one on Wednesday. The hills were extra bumpy this time out.
We call it a trail rideI often say to my wife, "let's go for a drive."

Old fashioned sleds with their twin skinny "skis" have to be one of the most poorly designed forms of transportation ever designed.
Some years there is a toboggan track set up in Eagles Mere, depending upon sufficient ice thickness in the lake among other things.I've always called it sled riding, and I'm from western PA.
We were talking with some parents and the subject of tobogans came up. My wife had never been on one, and none of the current kids had one. Those things were so fun growing up. We had one that was for 3 or 4 people, and we used to cram 6 on the thing. Rarely did all 6 make it down the hill, but it sure was fun. Unfortunately the wood warped on it and it got tossed years ago. My brother has the sled that has the steel rails. That would have been great for today with the hard packed snow. I think I may search for a good tobogan.
I had a Flexible Flyer sled with steering control. It was phenomenal.Despite the entertainment quotient provided by the Yinzer vocabulary in this thread, upon what snow-friendly vehicle did you actually ride?

I’ve done that. I recommend it if you’re nearby. Was a tough walk back up the hill at the time though. Maybe they have a tow line now? Some years there is a toboggan track set up in Eagles Mere, depending upon sufficient ice thickness in the lake among other things.
In the sixties it was called sleigh ridding.....I grew up saying ‘sled riding’ too but should it be ‘sledding’? Is it a PA thing?
GOD BLESS, you'll remember this for the rest of your life and especially before you pass.I'm going to be feeling this one on Wednesday. The hills were extra bumpy this time out.
These type of sleds were (and still are) the Cadillacs of sleds WHEN YOU HAVE A GOOD ICE PACK UNDER THE RUNNERS. If it’s just snow on a hill, nothing beats plastic. But if your road turns into a sheet of ice, these sleds are perfection.
There she is!!! It was great!
