Just curious - why is no one talking about the coaches poll?

We're ranked #14 in the coaches poll and that is definitely within striking distance of making the playoffs. No one is talking about it on this message board. I assume there's a good reason for that but I don't know what it is.

If they are like me, it's waiting and seeing what the playoff rankings are. Because they could be just enough different to make the AP and coach's poll meaningless.

I'd guess since the AP came out first, that got all the ire, then fans realized only the CFP matters at this point, so by the time the Coaches poll comes out, nobody cares.

I understand that but I just assumed two things : 1) I assumed it was literally the "coaches" poll...... and 2) I assumed the coaches poll would have more weight because you know, "coaches" ..... vs some relatively anonymous writers or fans.

It is possible I have no clue what I'm talking about because over the years, I really haven't delved too deeply into the origins of polls. I know a ton about college football as it is my favorite past time - but know very little about the actual polls. Kinda weird. Lol.

I've seen this debate a lot. AP vs coaches poll.

I think coaches are spending a LOT of time on their own teams, and I'd be shocked if they watch other teams much at all. (Minus scouting opponents)

Most coaches don't actually do the voting themselves. They delegate that to some staff member unless they want to make a particular point. The reporters probably know more about the teams strengths and weaknesses overall than the coaches since their job is to report on college football and they have time to do the research and dig deeper into the stats and game tape.

If Lou Holtz was still here, our next opponent would be the best team we face all year. Spurrier always started the year voting Duke in the top 25. Maybe #1, I dont remember. Point is there are ulterior motives for voting for the guys on your schedule or guys you had ties to.

Coaches poll and AP poll are relatively irrelevant now that the CFP rankings are out. Everyone is waiting to see where we land Tuesday night.

This much I do know, but I also think they sort of play off each other to sway opinions....whether they mean to or not. A glaring example of what I mean is..... they're all pretty much the same poll, give or take a few spots..... you won't see the CFB playoff ranking all of a sudden insert ....say....an East Carolina in there at #10 for no reason.

So if one poll can sway opinions to move a team up or down 2 or 3 spots, that can make all the difference. Unless I am mistaken, I believe the coaches poll having us at #14 is the highest ranking I've seen. Might matter. Might not. We'll see tomorrow.

Listening to college talk on satellite radio today, no one is giving us any chance, I've even heard ACC might get 3 teams. It's all political now.

It's all about maximizing tv viewership for Disney. Committee is going to make sure every major conference has at least two teams in the playoff and they are going to find some G5 team to pump as the Cinderella story. The playoff is a reality tv show.
