Just for the hell of it I stumbled upon something that I had kinda forgotten regarding Rod Carew and how great he was.

He's 77 now and still involved with MLB. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he stole home 7 times one year.

Rod Carew could freaking hit. Him, Tony Gwynn, Wade Boggs, and Pete Rose were the best pure "hitters" I've ever seen. Not many of those types left in this world of analytics and launch angles. Luis Arraez of the Marlins looks to fall in this category. Won the AL batting title last year then gets traded. Looks to be the favorite for the NL title this year.

Stole home 7 times in 1969. Won 7 batting titles and batted .388 in 1977, a hit per month from .400.

Don't think Carew ever played in a World Series. And IMO, Pete Rose was the best all round player in MLB history. He could play every position in the field except maybe pitcher. And there are some who said he could have done that if it came down to it.

Carew was great and he would've been considered even greater if he hadn't played on some bad teams. The Twins were pure garbage for the vast majority of his career.

I can't think of many in the modern era, although Ichiro came out of the gate pretty strong. Hit over .350 a few times and I think .370+ at least one season.

Gotta add Brett to this list for 80s hitters. 390 in 1980
