Just so everyone knows, Meridian beat South Panola 14 - 0 in the 16 minute scrimmage.

A few quick observations

South Panola - They will lose 2-4 games this year. They don't have the defense they have had in the past.

Meridian - Watch out, not only do they have a stout offense but the defense looked pretty solid also.

Russell - Looked like a man among boys. He is every bit of 6'5 and has a surprisingly big arm. He ran the ball for some good gains also. Came away very impressed.

Smith - Didn't really get the chance to show out but he did look like a superior athlete to most of the other players on the field.

And finally, I don't know who #5 on Meridian's team is but he was bringing the wood from his safety spot all night. Looked like a player.

Little tip - if you ever go to a game at Louisville just know going in that the shitters don't have doors on em'.

Edited to add: Moore looked ok but he was obviously over matched playing against 5A teams.

I have watched them a few times in the past and the D I saw tonight was not even close to what I have seen in the past.</p>

And the most striking thing of the night to me was how good Meridian looked. Also, Louisville was just plain overmatched. Moore is not in the same league with Russell at the QB position, but he is hard-nosed and can be a player. Russell is just in total command of the game at all times. Also, Thames looked terrible for Louisville and the Streak's days are numbered at South Panola. Also, I hope we offer Hamp Glover. He's a player.

I wish you were correct, but unfortunately Coach Wright only won 1 state title at SHS in 1984. The following year Moss Point snuff out the repeat bid 6-0. Still, he put together some of the most feared teams this state has ever seen, at Starkville, SP and others.

I hope you noticed that Thames got injured on the second play of the game when Moore made a bad pitch on the option. I will agree that he didn't look great but thats why. Thames is legit, I have seen him play at 100%.

But he played every snap against Meridian, offensively and defensively. I'm not knocking the guy, he just had a bad night. The kid is definitely a future star. Moore, however, not so much.

they were outscored by Raleigh (3A) in last years preseason jamboree.

I say Olive Branch ends the streak...

I hear Hamp is going to walk on no matter what. He looked good but lacked the elite speed it takes to play in the SEC. Moore looked like an average 3A QB. Russell however lived up to the hype and then some. Anyone that went to the scrimmage would say the same.

Glover is actually a step faster than his teammate and MSU commit, Chris Smith.

I thought Moore looked better than "an average 3A QB."

I agree about Russell: of MS's "big 3 QBs", I think Russell is clearly the best of the three.

be very tough. They have size and speed. Notice I didn't mention Garrett, but yeah, they have him too. Tupelo will beat USP this year.

I agree about Clayton Moore vs Russell , Russell is way better than Moore.

When Nick Parker stepped in for Tig last season, the offense never missed a beat. He is a great runningback.

The streak probably ends this season, but they will still contend for the title. They lost almost every lineman from last year. Most important was the loss of Willis Wright. He has an uncanny ability to make the perfect defensive adjustments.

As someone said earlier, don't jump to conclusions based on a jamboree. SP also lost to Lafayette in a jamboree a year or so ago. They never show much in the jamborees.

South Panola may lose a couple of games in Mississippi, but they won't be undefeated when they start their district schedule.

Is #4's name Nick Parker? How old is he? He did look like a big time back. He was one of the biggest kids on the field and he was running the damn ball.

I normally wouldn't put that much stock in a Jamboree, but it was 14-0 and a dominating 14-0 at that. I think Meridian, Tupelo, and Olive Branch will have a great shot at beating them come the regular season.

Clayton Moore didn't make one play last night that impressed me. Like I said earlier, that is probably because Louisville (which will contend for the 3A title aGAIN this year) was so over matched. They are a great 3A team am I think it's safe to say he will light up more than a couple 3A teams this year and put up some good stats, he just didn't have a chance against SP and Meridian.

I'm glad we have Russell and I anticipate him making a big impact here.

A buddy of mine talked to Pogue. He said if any body is gonna get them they better do it this year. He said the next 2, nobody will touch them. I think he kinda expects the streak to end this year. Sounds loaded in the future though

..and have a long-abiding love for the Rebels. Who knows? They might be trying to take up the slack now that Dickie Scruggs is in the pokey. I just hope this Hamp kid doesn't wind up as a Rebel, or worse, a Bammer.

One of my friends is close with the Glovers and said they are State fans. I think Hamp will end up walking on no matter what unless Southern or someone comparable offers.

he would commit to MSU tomorrow - scholly or no scholly - if the Six Pack offered him a charter membership and a lifetime of free chat.

Yeah, but NAFOOM could counteroffer with an offer to listen to the best Frathouse bands of the '90's and free tent setups in the Grove.

You are mixing cheers here.......

Cheer 1 is simply "We've got higher ACT's. We've got higher ACT's."

Cheer 2 is "That's alright. That's OK. You're gonna work for us someday."

Trust me on this. You can't mix the two. It's a rule.

in Batesville, in a game South Panola PAID to have broadcast, nonetheless. I agree with the 2TD victory prediciton by Apopka. This all sets up for a monumental "coming back down to earth" for SP. In a way, it almost seems like Pogue kinda wants to get the streak over with, so he can get on with building his own legacy at SP.

you have been reading mississippi sports talk.com too much.

<font face="Times New Roman">In a story dated July 18, it was said South Panola has to pay ESPN an undisclosed fee. That statement is incorrect. The extra money charged for the September 19 game against Apopka, Fla. will go to offset the cost of the Apopka team making the trip to South Panola. South Panola will not pay ESPN anything.
</font></p>

<font face="Times New Roman">The Panolian regrets the error and any inconvenience it may have caused.

1) I don't recall ever having read mississippi sports talk.com . Maybe I have read it, but I don't frequent it.
2) As you noted, this article (</a><a href="http://www.iclassifiedsnetwork.com/content.aspx?module=ContentItem&ID=91661&MemberID=1180">http://www.iclassifiedsne...D=91661&MemberID=1180) in online version of "The Panolian", indicated that SPHS was paying ESPN to air the game.
3) In a later, online edition, (</a><a href="http://www.iclassifiedsnetwork.com/content.aspx?module=ContentItem&ID=101024&MemberID=1180">http://www.iclassifiedsne...=101024&MemberID=1180), the staff of "The Panolian" acknowledged their error.
4) I do not read every article of "The Panolian" week in and week out. In this case, I read the orginal article, but not the article containing the correction.

With that said, I still possess the capability of lapsing into idiocy at any moment.

I could be wrong, but didn't South Panola win three games in the 4th Quarter last year? Conditioning is supposed to be one of their weapons.

Bammer is closer to Meridian than State or Ole Miss. Hamp could follow his heart to Tuscaloosa, like other former Meridian High players.
