Can't find the link just yet.

Carril had a great line in the 70s when his Tigers lost to Rutgers. Asked about the challenge of playing a very good team like Rutgers, Pete answered, 'Well, we can beat 'em in spelling'.

He used to frequent Conte's pizza and bar in Princeton. When I worked in the area, we would go there after playing softball or hoops or football and would see him in there. He sat by himself at the end of the bar, and people knew not to bother him.
Quite a character and an outstanding coach.

Jim Tarman used to tell a story about Carril wanting the PSU job. Carril called up and says I want the job, let's meet in Harrisburg to sign the deal. Jim explained to him that you have to go through a hiring process, interviews, etc. Pete said no way, I just want to be named coach. PSU hired Bruce Parkhill.

Went to the 1976 Princeton-Rutgers game at Jadwin Gymnasium that RU won in a tight game. RU later went to the Final Four in Philly. After the game we ate at the Nassau Inn where we ran into Carril. When we congratulated him on a good game, he told our table Princeton would play Rutgers again in a week. We were confused until he said “They’ll bring their books and we’ll bring ours!”

Great guy…great coach…

I went to his basketball camp at Blair Academy a few times. Learned a lot from him and the staff. He also told some of the funniest stories, he was a smart a$$ and a very funny guy.
