Don't they come up with the list early in the season? If the list was formulated now, he would likely be on it.

I never liked these list for this reason.

Yeah, I believe that's correct. At least it is for other positions. It's a preseason list and the finalists can only be chosen from that list. You could blow up and have the best season ever, but if you weren't on the preseason list, no dice.

Bad system then. This is a travesty. He is a premier punter.

Well, it looks like he was on the preseason list.

Now it's inexcusable.

I don't know what all goes into deciding who the best punter is, aside punting average.

Two of the finalists make sense. Bryce Baringer led the nation in punting average. Mason Fletcher was 6th in that category. The other finalist, Adam Korsak, was 44th in punting average.

Kroeger was 10th.

Equally important to average would be how many times you pinned an opponent inside their own 10 or 5 yard line. Not sure if they keep track of all those stats, but I assume so.

Yes, I just read several articles. Beamer is pissed and he should be. Sent out several tweets suggesting the folks that choose must not watch much football.

52% of kroeger's punts were inside the 20. The article i read suggested he was 2nd in average. Throw in the 84 yards passing. Hard to argue that he shouldn't be on the list.

I'd love to see a good justification for selecting Korsak over Kroeger. Maybe he punted on short fields a lot more than Kroeger but managed to pin a bunch inside the 20.

Just splitting hairs here but IMHO, that should be the #1 criteria. Think about it logically. A punter cannot help it if the team he's punting for constantly punts the ball at the opponents 45 yard line. In other words, it's literally a crap shoot of where the punter begins his punt. Is distance important over all? Of course. But it should be the #2 reason. #1 should be how many times did he/they drop it inside the 5-10 yard line? To me that criteria should be the end all be all, then you look at over all distance but you have to take that # with a grain of salt for reasons I stated.
