Yeah, something isn't adding up when they talk about a hotel room shortage in Lexington this weekend. Lexington, KY is no novice when it comes to hosting NCAA events - there are plenty of rooms in that town.What, is there a race up there this weekend? Spring bourbon tour? Lex has plenty of rooms. Edit: I plugged in the wrong weekend. lol. This weekend, you'll have better luck playing pick-up sticks with your butt cheeks than finding a room in Lexington. I guess nobody at UK thought a few weeks ago they might be hosting a regional and therefore thought to hold a block of rooms in reserve.
The sad part is the selection committee knew this and still awarded the regional to KY. Can you believe it?

It's a bad look. Apparently the dorm rooms they have are apartment-style dorms and better than a hotel. UK said all dorms would be staffed 24/7 like a hotel.
Based on the tweets posted by WVU players in the SPUN article in OP, that's what was promised but not what was delivered.

I get why it makes UK look bad. In reality, though, what do you really need? It looks like a clean room and has everything you need.
Kornblut's lofty opinion on the subject was, what team's will want to go to a KY regional in the future and "imagine the reaction if this happened to one of Dawn Staley's teams in a WBB tourney".
Not getting all the references, but “plenty” is relative. As a former swim parent, it was a mad rush to get a room there once State Championship weekend was announced. That’s just one event.
