Picked this bit up on a facebook reply to a cbs sports segment about uk/uf, I think it best sums it up.

Kentucky has limitations as a program and most analysts realize this, their little "run" they've had the last 3-4 years had a lot to do with both Florida and Tennessee being down and South Carolina and Missouri being dumpster fires, only a matter of time before Tennessee and Florida get their acts together, as for South Carolina and Missouri; jury's still out. But Kentucky has hit their ceiling, wouldn't be surprised to see Stoops bolt for a bigger job after this year.

If Stoops became available I'd drop Beamer like a bad habit to get him.

Really? I have yet to be all that impressed with Stoops. Though they have beaten us and though they have done fairly well the last couple of years, I have seen nothing earth shaking about Kensucky football. I do not get the hype. I will stick with Beamer.
To do what he has done at a place like UK is amazing. Before Stoops, UK fans viewed football season in a positive light only in that it marked the beginning of the countdown to basketball season. UK has had 4 10 win seasons in their history, Stoops has 2 in the last 4 seasons. He has to recruit against Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee and Notre Dame just to name the schools that border Kentucky. High School football in Kentucky is pretty well beyond an afterthought in the minds of sports fans. Stoops has made UK fans excited about football and they are filling up the stadium, something that was rare in the past. Stoops has built the program with leftover talent and great player development and coaching.

He came into this year with a 59-53 record. No thanks. I will take my chances. Basically .500 football is now the standard at UK and they are happy. Good for them.

We were pathetic last year and they struggled mightily to beat us. One average QB and receiver and we win.

Like the article said…ceiling reached

They have Miss St and Louisville yearly…we have TAMU and Taters. Big difference.

They got LSU last year to go with MSU, but it was a dumpster by then. They have Ole Miss and MSU this year from the west…we have Arkansas and TAMU (I dare say if given the choice most teams would prefer Ole Miss and Mississippi State).

Two years ago they had Ole Miss and MSU from the west again.
Throw in their patsies…you would have to be inept to not win 7-8 games.

I hope Stoops has a LONG and happy career at UK. Now that he and Calipari are feuding it should be a fun ride for their fans.

I always hesitate to use the all time record.

A coach takes over a 2-10 team, and goes 10-2 his second year would be dismissed for being a .500 coach.

Not that I would chase Stoops too hard, I just think he's built a better program than that. (But I do believe he's at or near his ceiling)

His last 4 years were 10-3, 8-5, 5-6,10-3. With the 5-6 being the year without ooc patsies.

I look at what he has done with the resources he has to work with and I see a really good coach. He took over a complete dumpster fire and made them a pretty good team. I agree UK is pretty much at its ceiling but Stoops put them there.

He has 9-10 years under his belt. Plenty of sample size now. I agree with your 2 year analogy scenario. But you can see with your eyes nothing to fear each year if you were playing them. Just my opinion and everyone has one. I would cringe if we ever hired him.

His personality and demeanor is enough to make you cringe.

They are a middle of the pack SEC team. Several SEC programs struggle to rise above finishing in the middle of the SEC team standings. Occasionally one will rise above middle of the pack level but those years are rare. Right now we are struggling to get to the middle of the pack. Hope we make it this year. And yes the Ky. program has beaten our team enough so there is no need for them to show respect til we win it.

Spurrier isn't going to win many personality awards and he did a pretty good job. Dabo is nothing but personality and I wouldn't want him.

I think a couple national titles could make people accept a lot of things.

College football in general has evolved into a situation where every conference has a couple top teams, a couple bottom feeders and everyone else milling around in the middle. NIL and the transfer portal are going to further lock this in place. The rich are going to keep getting richer and the middle of the pack are going to shuffle around but very few are going to rise to the top.
