The longer this goes without an announcement that we are hiring Schnall the less likely it becomes that we are hiring Schnall.

Unless they are negotiating a package deal with Williams and Morrison.

I wonder if an announcement will not be made until the conclusion of the CWS?
I dont know if that makes much sense if our season and his team's seasons are already over. Im seeing a lot of stuff on twitter about it being Schnall after all and that an announcement will be later today so if thats the choice, its time to throw support behind the new staff and hope for the best.

Was thinking in terms of is there some sort of "gentlemen's agreement" to withhold such announcements until after the CWS concludes.

They are analyzing if he "really wants to be here".

Im really hoping now that Tanner is gone, that is not such an important part of the evaluation in new hires, going forward

I can see that. An excellent guess, IMO.

I have said this previously, how in the world does anyone know if Schnall is the top choice for Donati/South Carolina, or anyone else for that matter. Are people merely making this presumption based upon media insiders on this website. From a professional standpoint, if I were Donati and people within my organization were leaking this kind of sensitive information out, you would be facing disciplinary action that may include dismissal. Think about this, leaking information about potential candidates is detrimental to this process by making it much more difficult to speak with a coach or his agent.

I imagine Brandon Dunn may report on other candidates Donati interviews. Okay.

Sounds a lot like when Ray Tanner hired Chad Holbrook. Not saying its the wrong move, but it sure does seem like we've seen this show before. I think there is something to be said for if we really consider ourselves as a blue blood program, do we really want to hand the keys to someone who would be still learning on the job on how to be a head coach?

I am starting to wonder if Schnall isnt the primary target. I feel like if he was, the deal would have been done by now

Something to consider with Schnall.

He was also the associate head coach with Gilmore when Gilrmore first became sick. I think he had a lot more experience leading a program than the official 2 years listed as head coach because with Gilmore going through treatment, etc- Schnall was also leading the program.

When we hired Mainieri, no one was even talking about him

So we really don't know.

I saw the report where Schnall did in fact meet with the baseball administration face to face for the first time yesterday and along with another unidentified candidate.

I have read they met in Florence with Schall.

I am also wondering if he's decided to stay at Coastal. I think it would be very hard to leave there with the half a million he makes there and it being his school. He's well taken care of and is respected. H knows he can have a down year or two at Coastal and stay head coach. He will also probably get another raise.

I've heard from someone that knows him fairly well that tells me money is not an issue for him. He feels well compensated and is very happy. He also feels Coastal puts resources into the program there and while more would be great, he's satisfied they will do what they need to do and have proven they will do it. His family is also very happy in Myrtle Beach.

Of course, more money is nice, but that he feels he can make more money at Coastal in the long run than if he took a gamble with us and failed. So money won't be the deciding factor for him, which I think is the proper way to look at our job.

I am not sure South Carolina would make people respect him more. His mentor, Gilmore, also turned down other opportunities to stay at Coastal and never regretted it.

Nothing would surprise me though.

Would rather be patient and get this right. Why Schnall over Sabins or Meade if they are interested? Obviously Meade has been here before so he would know what he is getting into.

Despite what the "insiders" are telling you, there could be other coaches under consideration and perhaps our experienced AD is being discrete as he should be. Furthermore, just because Coastal got bounced quicker does not mean we need to move on him right away, if he really wants this job, then he can wait until Donati has explored all of his options.

Not a jab at this board, but "insiders" in general. A "source" had the Coastal program feeling he was leaving, yet it drags on.

I am convinced anonymous "sources" often tell people what they want to hear, whether its true or not.

Get ready folks; you wont have Tanner to blame this time.
Why do you let how the fans will react chap your backside so much?

We get it already. Any coach hired has your unconditional love and support regardless of results. Your mentality is there should be no expectations because we're Carolina and have no right to expect anything of coaches or our programs. We should be grateful someone accepted the job.

So we have two potential HC candidates, if you can believe any scuttlebutt, now in the CWS with Troy and WVU. How does anyone know that things aren`t "falling into place." If not with Schnall maybe with one of them or someone else that has been thrown around as a potential HC.

Your thinking mirrors mine a great deal. His being a Coastal alumnus merely adds to them being his school.
