I actually like that every 2 years you'll play everyone in conference and any college student who spends four years will have had both a homeHe's 100% correct. The way the SEC did this scheduling is asinine.
Then this wholesale flip every year of the home/aways. Why not just stair step it where every team rotates on as a home/home? That's too logical.
I’ve gotten used to USCe, but they still don’t feel like a fit. Arkansas absolutely feels like a fit.Someone was going to get stuck with OU just like someone is going to get stuck with Missouri who still doesn't feel like a fit. Those of us old enough to remember the 1992 expansion had some similar feelings about Arkansas and South Carolina (moreso USC) back in the day.
I enjoy the fact that he doesn’t just coach speak everything. I’m sure Oklahoma fans felt the same way about them
eta: but yeah, that’s gonna make for good fodder next year
He's mad we got Bama / Vandy while they got LSU / OU.Surely, he’s talking about Ole Miss’s storied tradition with Alabama and not at all talking about Arkansas
It really is nice having the kind of power our school doesHe's mad we got Bama / Vandy while they got LSU / OU.
The AD cabal had us suck so much that we count as the **** opponent for OM while they count as upper tier for us.
Oklahoma, Arkansas and Mizzou should have all been paired. We could have done away with Arkansas and Texas.Someone was going to get stuck with OU just like someone is going to get stuck with Missouri who still doesn't feel like a fit. Those of us old enough to remember the 1992 expansion had some similar feelings about Arkansas and South Carolina (moreso USC) back in the day.
Fair point, especially with the way they transfer these days.I actually like that every 2 years you'll play everyone in conference and any college student who spends four years will have had both a home
and away opportunity for every school.
I think they actually did a very solid job balancing things and the fact that the only bitching / confusion is about two different "3rd opponent" games is a testament to not ******* it up.
Look ideally we'd like to be a 10 team conference with 9 permas every year, but with 16 they did a jam up job. Vandy - MSU and OU-OM are the only headscratchers. Every other protected game makes a ton of sense.
The slight tweak you could make that would **** up the competitive balance a bit would be:
State - LSU
A&M - OU
OM - Vandy
In 4 years with different competitive scales, this may be the rotational change. I personally would have done it from the jump, but I get them wanting A&M - LSU to maintain being a thing.
Wrong school.. it’sFloridaReally won't matter when he's coaching for bama next year.
I also think part of this was they intentionally wanted to move to more of an everyone plays everyone rotation. Other than a few select rivalries the rest is wide open. There was no way to make everybody see sense in the schedules. I think ours makes perfect sense. We got our traditional rival, a long time opponent with a very close campus, and a traditionally weaker team (like us, if we're being honest) that is also close in the grand scheme.
It's fine.
At thus point, Alabama is about as good as we could have asked for as our top tier opponent. They’ll be “down” for the next few years.Translation: We didn't get Vandy.
I think the SEC did a great job at putting this together. I don't like having Bama, but I get it and I can accept it. Looking back at my Friday chart, we got the 3 closest teams to us as our three permanent. Everett thanks the league office.
This is true.Maybe he should resign the fact they didn't really play an SEC schedule for the first 40+ years of the conference and we were selling home games to conference foes for some damn reason.
The only choice that would "make sense" historically from an Oklahoma perspective would be Arkansas, Texas, Missouri. It seems like with each successive SEC expansion, it is harder for me to feel like the "new" teams are really a part of it. Could just be age...I enjoy the fact that he doesn’t just coach speak everything. I’m sure Oklahoma fans felt the same way about them
eta: but yeah, that’s gonna make for good fodder next year
I feel like I more quickly accepted them as SEC teams than I'm capable of doing this time around. Kinda weird...Someone was going to get stuck with OU just like someone is going to get stuck with Missouri who still doesn't feel like a fit. Those of us old enough to remember the 1992 expansion had some similar feelings about Arkansas and South Carolina (moreso USC) back in the day.
