Wow.
Well the NIL isn't going to run directly through the schools and there isn't going to be any "salary cap". If the NCAA hadn't been so greedy and oblivious to the players' complaints for decades, maybe this would have been worked out. But not now.
I'm not a big NIL fan, as it's currently structured, and I've stated that a few times on here. There are always unintended consequences. There may be some consequences that nobody identifies up front that could favor the northern schools. Obviously Saban and Swinney have some concern based on how outspoken they've been on the issue. They must feel threatened and NIL could lead to a shift in the balance of power. When it comes down to it, while they are fanatical about football, Alabama is one of the poorer states in the country. Can they stack up financially with the wealthier ones in the long run?
Another reason why NIL should run directly through the schools and a salary cap should be instituted.
It's funny to see these guys take shots at each other, though. I feel like it's a throwback to past college football eras.
Saban crying about only assembling the 2nd best class. And an emotional response from Jimbo at TAM.
I'm interested to know why you believe NIL will level the playing field. When the top high school players, and players that have developed into top college players at outlier schools, are motivated to the teams that have the most NIL money to distribute, how does that level the playing field? Not a NIL fan but to be fair I don’t have an in-depth understanding, however it seems to have leveled the field to a degree.
Something along the lines of this? The next saban-jimbo post-game “handshake” should be interesting.
Perhaps I should have qualified within the Power 5 conferences. I can only assume what Jimbo was referring to regarding recruiting practices at Alabama and Saban however A&M certainly recruited at a very high level staying within the NIL frame work. Could they have had the same level of success without NIL? I am not certain they could have assumingely out recruited Alabama under pre-NIL accepted practices.I'm interested to know why you believe NIL will level the playing field. Sure, it's not the colleges that directly distribute NIL money. But the teams with the most fans, the biggest brands, the richest alumni, the widest media coverage, the most business sponsors, will have the most NIL money flowing to their targeted players.
And it has been proven by Saban that any team that can attract a roster that is consistently more loaded with talent can win disproportionately even with an average coach.

Shocker!!! Who in god's name didn't see that happening from the onset?“There are some concerning trends,” Southeastern Conference Commissioner Greg Sankey told Yahoo Finance. “We're not seeing name image and likeness activity — we're seeing just straight payments. And I think it's important that we recenter ourselves on what's supposed to be happening here and the desire to keep that activity out of recruitment to benefit young people economically but to do so in a healthy way.”
