Getting knocked out of the regional kind of cemented it. When you look at the body of work over the past 7 years, nobody who truly dedicated to contending is going to keep that around.I'll admit I'm quite surprised! So, that's good. Now we have Ray hiring again.... so that's bad.
There was essentially no justification for retaining a coach who was below .500 through 6 seasons of SEC play. The lack of postseason accomplishments was glaring, but not even being competitive in your own conference is a killer.Getting knocked out of the regional kind of cemented it. Pleased to see Ray move fast on this. We need to make the right hire this time.
Neither of those guys excite me. It took Mingione 6-7 years to get UK competitive. Pollard is well under 500 in the ACC.Hearing Nick Mingione from Kentucky and Chris Pollard from Duke are near the top of the list. Both are guys that are winning at programs that haven’t had a ton of success in the past. Would be interesting to see what they could do here. Either of these guys would be an upgrade from what we’ve had the past 10 years.
I don’t know that we’re going to get a name that will excite us that much. A lot of the can’t miss guys are established and probably won’t leave. We could do worse than these 2. I know Duke about shut their program down at one point and UK was always a cellar dweller back in the day.Neither of those guys excite me. It took Mingione 6-7 years to get UK competitive. But, that's Kentucky and Duke. You could argue that they did more with less. I have not watched enough of either to have any feel for them.
I’m almost embarrassed to ask this, but is this true? My goodness…I get that we should let our kids make some decisions and not force them / control them…but what a terrible look for our university if so.I hope Kingston took that quempson attending daughter of his with him!
That is the question. I'm all for a swift firing as long as you have a solid plan in place to bring in the next guy. Minimize transfers and de-commitments.I'm a little surprised. Not that he was released, but how quickly. It makes sense however, if you were going to do it, do it.
Now, has Tanner been preparing for this? Are there guys already researched and under consideration? We really need a home run hire.
The shocking things is how many of our fans were alright with just being alrightEither you're serious about being successful in athletics or you aren't. What was once a gold standard baseball program has been reduced to polished tin.

IDK???Monte is a former Ray Tanner assistant - what are the chances that Ray just elevates Monte to full-time status.....
I could not agree more. You hit the nail on the headI’m almost embarrassed to ask this, but is this true? My goodness…I get that we should let our kids make some decisions and not force them / control them…but what a terrible look for our university if so.
I completely get that USC may not be the right fit. In fact, it may even be wise not to attend the school where your father coaches. But I would’ve been all for paying for her education to go out of state…really anywhere but our bitter rival.
We are going to have to lay down some big bucks to get a good coach.I think Monte is a guy we could hire if this process goes to crap. I don’t think Ray is dumb enough to hire a coach that failed at Clemson. Not to mention that’s not the reset this program needs.

That’s my take as well. We’ve screwed around for years. Can’t afford to fail 3 times in a row. Got to pay to get the best guy we can get.We are going to have to lay down some big bucks to get a good coach.
Sounds like several of the recruits (including Morlando) and some current players are advocating for Monte.
He'll have to be reaaaaal right.Mike Morgan thinks we’ll pay 7 figures to get the right guy.
Name a 7 figure man we can getMike Morgan thinks we’ll pay 7 figures to get the right guy.
An interesting thought.Would a successful minor league coach surrounded by good assistant coaches and recruiters make sense? Aren't minor league coaches tasked with developing talent, and wouldn't they know what it takes for a college player to reach the professional ranks: a goal for many D1 players.
Dude coached for 7 years. Not like we were quick to fire him. It's good to keep firing coaches. It's makes ot so much easier to hire the next...
