backup QB inside your own 20 with 35 seconds left and you pass the ball. strip sack and recovery by ND = TD to follow. What was the probability that UGA was going to get points with 35 seconds left after a half of 3 pits to that point? it would seem the odds of something bad out weigh the possible positive results. all we hear from Kirby is we want to be aggressive. looks stupid to me. he could have gone to the half time down 6-3.. Instead he winds up down 13-3.

Incredibly dumb…..the end of the half was the ballgame. The KO return was just icing.

Now that was stupid. There was no need to be aggressive in that situation and location on the field.
If he had a seasoned veteran QB, I would have been fine with throwing the ball.

Exactly. I was stunned when he didn’t simply run the ball and go to the locker room down 6-3 with a QB making his first start in a playoff game.

If Beck was there I wouldn't blink if he did this, but a QB in his first start? That's a tough ask. Just goes to show even the top college coaches will make questionable calls, but had Stockton broke a run for 30 yards and then got them into FG position everyone would be singing his praises for the aggressive stance to get points. The beauty of being a fan after the fact we are batting a thousand. ;)

It was idiotic. And, just like going for it on fourth down deep in your own territory when leading 14-0 despite your offense having done nothing to that point), I said so before the play and result. I say that not to make myself look like a genius (it doesn’t take genius to not do something so stupid), but in a likely futile effort to prevent the “anybody can say that after the play didn’t work” retort.

And I was not aware that having won national championships in the past meant that anything you ever did from that point until your death was clearly correct and cannot be questioned. 🙄 Hell, Smart even admitted it was a mistake at halftime.

so stupid that he won back to back Nattys

you guys are too dumb to be real
Kirby winning 2 National Championships doesn’t have a damn thing to do with his idiotic decision to pass from your 25 yard line with less than 40 seconds to go in the first half down 6-3 with a QB making his first start in a playoff game. If you want to see something too stupid to be real; look in the mirror.

I have it on good authority that Coaches don't make mistatkes and if you thought they did you are wrong because you were never a coach and have no idea what you juust saw with yourw own eyes.

And football is so complicated, physicists, engineers and lawyers can't understand it.
Only a bunch of guys with physical education degrees can.

If it had worked you clowns would have called it genius, He was in trouble, knew it, and took chances because he thought he needed to. His roster was decimated.

You're not wrong with that post. Every fan throws the word stupid and genius around after the fact. 45 seconds and 2 timeouts is enough time to get a FG for sure, but if it's a 3 point game or less maybe you dial it back with a new QB. People make these black and white binary declarations like they think they have every answer.

If he simply didn't cough up the ball that allowed a TD nobody remembers that sequence if they run out the clock or punt, but now everyone is football smarter than Kirby or any coach. Dunning Kruger rules message boards and the experts are 100% right after any game....just ask them as they talk with such authority from their phones and keyboards. The lack of self awareness shown on this board at times with people talking out their arse is overwhelming.

Good gracious sakes alive.
Penn State football is in a position nobody likely expected last August. But, here we are. And what does this board do? Continue to rip on coaches and fellow board members.
Sheesh. Agree to disagree.
Leave it at - I wouldn’t have done that.
Sorry for throwing some positive thoughts out there. No, I’m not perfect posting either, but….. Enjoy the moment

You mean nobody expected PSU to be able to beat SMU or Boise in a post season game?

Agreed, but only if we are allowed to be negative and attack each other as soon as the season is over.

I'll use this opportunity to remind you of one of the tenets of the McAndrew board... The call was perfect and the fault lies solely on the tackle not picking up the edge rusher. It's the Jimmy's and Joe's, NEVER the X's and O's. Anyone who believes otherwise is a fanboy.

Left tackle was getting beat like a drum the whole first half. GA didn’t adjust their blocking to offset this liability and paid the price. In light of that, Maybe Kirby shoulda taken a knee, went to the locker room and made some adjustments.

You are operating under the premise that coaches make mistakes. Are you new here? lol

Based on the first 29+ minutes of the game, the chances of Georgia actually getting any pts before the half were probably less than the chance of a Big 2(16) officiating crew calling Offensive Holding on UMich or tOSU when playing PSU.
