that no matter how great a player you are, you need two really dominant players to win the Championship in the NBA. Jordan had Pippen, Johnson had Kareem, Bird had McHale and Parish, and as has been mentioned, Shaq had Kobe.

And I don't think any less of any of those great players just because they had a sidekick.

If the Lakers get another really dominant player- like a Tim Duncan (just throwing a name out there, I know that they're not going to be able to get him), they might win it next year.

Kobe isn't the type player at this stage of his career to let anyone else get any glory. You know its bad when the team actually considers trading Kobe before the season when he is considered one of the best in the league.

even when they were 3-peating in LA he was jealous that Shaq kept winning Finals MVP and he was just the "sidekick" (it's in Phil Jackson's book).

and not forced management into picking either Shaq or Kobe, he could have had more than 3 rings by now.

Kobe shot them out of the Detroit series in 04. If Kobe had been more humble (like Dwayne Wade), Shaq would've eventually deferred to him and let him be the go-to guy that he always wanted to be. But humility isn't part of Kobe's personality unfortunately. I know he didn't MAKE management trade Shaq but he also didn't do anything to stop it. And it was well known that he no longer wanted to play with Shaq so management did what they had to do. Even though they've supposedly buried the hatchet, I bet Shaq was somewhere smiling last night.

Freaking foreign players. Not a single one of those scruffy looking Euros have a clue how to play defense. That cannot be pinned on Kobe. Kobe deferred more to his teammates in the Celtic series than I have ever seen him. He did not force the action much. The Lakers need to focus on bringing in a couple of shut down defenders next season and unload Radmonovic and Vujacic.

KG is a leader for Boston, as is Paul Pierce. Kobe is not a natural leader. Shaq was an OK leader but the cupboard is bare in LA.

So, Shaq leads 4 teams to NBA titles and 2 others to the finals is an "OK leader" but Garnett, who has been out of the 1st round 2 times in his life is a "leader." Somehow, I'm sensing a double standard.

Kobe isn't a natural leader, but Garnett is becoming one, with more long term potential than Kobe has shown so far. Talking about leadership... not points.

He's always been a selfish player and he always will be. The day the Lakers traded Shaq, I said that was the last title Kobe would ever win.
