Yeah, we gave up 507 yards and 38 points. However, take away the garbage TD and it was really only 31 points. The D held UT 14 points below their season average. Moreover, as hot as we were playing on offense, UT got the score before halftime to make it an 11 point game, and they got the ball to open the second half. Most presumed they would score to make it a 4 point game, but it was huge for the D to come out and force a punt on that opening drive. They did allow a TD on UT's next drive, but that was it until the garbage TD. To hold UT to 7 meaningful second-half points was huge.
It had been rough few games for the D. Mizzou's terrible offense dragged us for a half. Vandy dragged us for the whole game. UF ran over, around and through us all night. It was simply assumed by everyone that UT would have video game numbers in this game. Many guessed they would 60+. All the assessments I read leading up to the game basically said there was nothing we could do in this one. They nutted up big time.
There were a number of times when the D could have collapsed but they did not. Very proud of their effort last night.
