...Eight Belles ran her heart out, and despite her front ankles breaking down, she still finished 2nd. I could tell she was hurting with about 1/16th to go, but she wouldn't quit.

That being said, Big Brown was just a Monster Horse. The acceleration out of the turn into the stretch was like putting the horse into overdrive.
