I am taking my teenage daughter to LA for the Taylor Swift concert in early August. We land early on the 7th and will have all day to do whatever. The concert is on the 8th so we will only have part of that day, as she will want to be at SoFi Stadium when the gates open. We fly home early the next morning. Basically we have a day and a half. I have never been there. I would like to hit the Santa Monica Pier and Hollywood Blvd. Other than that, I really don't know. Open to any and all suggestions, although I will admit I am much more of a tourist that most of you seem to be. When I go somewhere I enjoy going to the so called "tourist traps" that many of you scoff at in other threads. For example we are probably going to have dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe on Hollywood Blvd. But again, I am open to any suggestions/advice you are willing to share.

Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica.
Third Street Promenade

Then depending what time you get to Santa Monica and how much time you spend there, take a ride up the Pacific Coast highway from Santa Monica to Malibu. (about 20 miles) Then for the return, take Topanga Canyon Blvd up to the Ventura Freeway 101 and back to LA to avoid returning the way you came. The scenery on Topanga Canyon Blvd is pretty neat and up through the hills. If that sounds appealing MapQuest is your friend.

Venice beach is an interesting freak show to walk along. You will absolutely see a little bit of everything. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is also a must (and free) if you’re into tourist stuff. If your daughter is a Nike fan, there is a huge Nike store along there that I almost couldn’t get my 21 year old son out of. I’m like you, I actually liked the Hard Rock there. A drive up the PCH is very cool especially late in the day for the sunset. Whatever you do, plan your travel time to take at least 3X as long as you think it should. You’re a good dad for doing this. It will be a trip she’ll remember forever!
