It better or it will from somewhere else. The big boys don't huff around rattling sabers, they pull the trigger.

It's coming. I'd be surprised if anything happened before our season was officially over. Lamont strikes me as the type who's not that worried about it and just wants to focus on the season. If I were him, I'd want to wait and see how I do in the NCAAT anyway. The floor is set at this point (whatever that number is) but the ceiling could go up considerably based on how we performed in the SECT and NCAAT. If we made a decent run to the Sweet 16, he would command a good bit more than he would currently. He only risks losing money by signing a contract sooner. But I doubt he's out to gouge us.

I'm sure coach and Ray have already met and have a gentleman's agreement that a nice raise is coming once the season comes to an end.

Does it blow up on them as it has on us?
Worth the risk. If it blows up, it's only money and the potential reward outweighs the risk. There's more $$ where it came from. Paying out Muschamp hasn't had a huge financial impact to the school. I agree that Muschamp's hire and extension was an epic failure but the school needs to move forward with CLP.

I agree that we need to move forward, but with a measured approach. We can pay him fairly and generously, and we should, but we can also avoid a silly buyout. A big factor, of course, is that Sexton, king of the buyout, is not Lamont's agent.

I for one will be happy when all of the "pay the man", "lock him down", and "lifetime contract" talk is done! (Okay, I made up the lifetime contract part. 😄 )

Not saying we don't. Saying let's not have any heartburn if the same strategy yields the same outcome.

I don't trust "gentleman's agreements" in big-time college athletics.

Pretty telling when someone gets a $25 k bonus and we can say it's "not much"
Better than the Jelly of the Month club.

I understand the concern after getting burned by the Muschamp fiasco and what transpired in Beamer's 3rd season. The difference to me is that Muschamp was a proven failure as Head Coach before we hired him. Beamer had no Head Coaching winning experience prior to coming here; thus we don't know whether he is Frank's boy or Cheryl's boy. Lamont, on the other hand, had successful Head Coaching experience @Chattanooga, where his team's overall record and their conference record and/or standing improved each season.... a sign of a well-coached team.
