I would love to see Ga Tech upset FSU.

DJ Uingaagaeegeelle (or however you spell it...too to google it right now) seemed like an odd choice to me for them at QB considering he's already had a go in the ACC and was just ok. He was alright at Oregon State but not a QB I think you'd want to put championship aspirations on.

I think GT will make a decent account of themselves, but they don't quite have the talent level or depth to handle FSU for the full 4 quarters.
Should be a decent game

And yet he was rated as a 5 star in the portal and one of the top prospects.... seems crazy to me

I hope Uglylay beats Clemson. The rest I hope they lose.

Taking a much bigger picture here, and I know I'll get blasted for it, but I'd actually like to see Clemson win. Why? Dabo stands alone as the one coach who hasn't gone all-in on the portal.

As much as I hate Clemson, them winning does not pose a threat to the survival of college football. The portal, along with the NIL madness, does. Being old school as I am, I would love to see someone show success without the portal and be able to give a giant middle finger to all those teams who leaned so heavily on it. If it has to be Dabo and Clemson, then it has to be Dabo and Clemson. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. If my hate for Clemson is 10/10, my hate for the portal is 10,000.

I'd rather college football be existentially changed forever than see Clemson and Dabo continue to win.

And I would rather see the latter. I'd rather see a team I hate succeed in a sport that I love than see the sport that I love extinguished.

At least if the sport is extinguished Clemson will never win again.

Anyway, even if you're right and Clemson and Dabo put things back together and continue to win, I don't think that's putting the cat back in the bag. The portal is here. Players are here for one season, then it's open season for transferring.

Even if Dabo proves it can be done without the portal, I don't see how any other coach is going to follow that path. Only a handful of coaches have the track record to say "I'm doing it my way," and even Dabo has lost that at the national level. He's been excoriated over and over by the national media for his refusal to adjust to the portal. Imagine a new coach, who doesn't have a multiple national championship resume doing that. No way he'd even get hired.

No, I don't mean to suggest that Dabo can undo what's been done. Just being an old school guy, I'd love to see someone stick it to the portal guys.

I see the reasoning behind it. And a small part of me agrees. A very small part.

I definitely see the reasoning and understand it, and if it were any other coach I'd agree with it. Even if it were Kirby Smart or (it pains me to say) Eli Drinkwitz! But since it's Dabo and Clemson, I can't agree.

This thread has morphed into I hate Clemmons, so I couldn't resist. I live in Georgia. A few years ago, I was offered the opportunity to go recruit engineering students for my work. They knew I was a SC native. The team would visit USC and Clemmers. I declined the offer. I wouldn't set foot on that campus. No way I wanted any more of those urange-loving @$&*# in my workplace.

C'mon...is it really that difficult to spell his last name? It is spelled Ukulele (of course!). You are welcome.

Florida A&M and Norfolk State play in Atlanta next Saturday night, the 24th, at 7:30 p.m. - on ABC, no less.

This game will obviously not pull in big numbers, but I do like that these 2 HBCU schools will get a nice payout and national exposure that they normally would not have this opportunity.

I'll actually be there, even though I detest Atlanta.

Aside from the fact that Dabo and I happen to agree on the portal, what I respect is that he's actually backing up his words with actions. Lots of other coaches moan and groan about the state of college football with the portal, but then they get down in the scrum with everyone else when it comes to picking players from the portal. When we, overall, live an era where words are meaningless, it's refreshing to see someone who sticks to what they say.

Well maybe with this specific issue. But he definitely doesn't stick to what he says.

Remember this is the guy who said, and I quote: "As far as paying players, professionalizing college athletics, that’s where you lose me. I’ll go do something else because there’s enough entitlement in this world as there is.”

As far as I can tell, Dabo hasn't gone and done something else. He's still quite happy up there in the mountains making his 10 million+ a year.

That quote gets tossed around a lot, but to be fair, it's taken out of context, and most don't know the context. His answer was in response to a question about the Northwestern football players union that was seeking pay and benefits directly from the University. He was against that and lodged concern about making players employees and all that comes along with it (and I think most here agree with that position). He has said he has no issues with players making money from their own NIL. So I don't see any inconsistency in his position. Revenue sharing still doesn't fit into the context of the question he was asked, but it does blur the lines and pushes it in that direction.

Also, although his statement about quitting made sense in the context of the question he was asked and he has been consistent in that position, I'm not going to hold someone to an off-the-cuff comment they made a decade ago. Things change and people's opinions can morph over time. I would certainly not want my feet held to the fire over every statement I've ever made.

This is the wrong forum to expect people to be fair to Dablow! 😂
