Brian Hadad was talking about us being soft on coverage this year and allowing 10-12 yards this year ...that is no different than last year. Am I wrong? I seem to remember complaining over and over about our corners backing off the wr's, last year

couldn't the offenses have just gameplanning, since they have a year of film now, to hit us with quick throws and wr screens? but beside the lbs getting pressure last year and this year not being able to, the d seems basically the same as last year "bend but don't break"

here is the podcast

Exactly. Our coverage is just the same as last year, the difference in the defense is no pressure on the qb, and our lb's and de's aren't stopping the off tackle/sweeps.

I really think some folks got all googly eyed at the Latin Machismo of Manny and just glossed over most of last year. I know folks are pining for the return of Senor Diaz but the defense, scheme wise, looks just like last year except without KJ, McPhee, and Chris White. Even if Diaz were here I think the production would beexactly the same. It's a LB heavy scheme with green/walk-on linebackers.
Even Coach Wilson is saying the same things. He was just quoted sayingsomething about howwe don't mind if UGA moves the ball between the 20's we're focused on them not scoring. It was nearly word for word a Manny quote. The scheme is all about keeping the ball in front of the defense, attacking with the Linebackers, and bringing lots of pressure. To blitz as much as we do I think it's smart to play the WR's a little soft because if a DB gets burned it's 7 points. Granted it does frustrate me to watch us give up 3-5 yard pass plays constantly.
I feel though that our defense has gotten better the last few weeks. Eulls coming on and playing well has been a great addition. The LB's look less lost, and some are starting to look decent. Whitley is becoming an enforcer that WR's are shying away from. Banks and Broomfield are still getting their picks. I'd like to see Slay some more though.
