24 teams make the playoffs in FCS, out of 133 teams. 18%.
28 teams make the playoffs in D2, out of 162 teams. 17%.
32 teams make the playoffs in D3, out of 243 teams. 13%.
68 teams make the basketball tournament, out of 351 teams. 19%.
64 teams make the baseball tournament, out of 309 teams. 21%.
Meanwhile in FBS, we have 3%, and we think we are cool by going to 9% next year.
The playoff should be 16 teams minimum, that's 12%. No byes. No conference championship games. No conference champions automatic. Top 4 G5 teams make it, and play the top 4 seeds.
Done.
For now, G5 is defined as teams outside the SEC, B1G, Big 12 and ACC. Obviously, this will evolve over time. But those 4 will eventually get to 80 teams, so 12 playoff spots for them are 15% of P5 (or P4). Then 8% of G5 makes it. That's fair, and gives incentive to get the top 4 seeds and get to play a G5 team first round.
ETA: But nooooooo.....we want to break away and make this all about paying players. If this idiotic idea happens, I could see the new D1 becoming more popular one day, over the new FBS CFP division or whatever, depending on where the actual cutoff line is.
