Leach vs. Arizona

Obviously every season/team is different, but Leach had a ton of success offensively against Arizona at WSU. The only reason he didn’t go undefeated against them was because he had little to no defensive talent at WSU.

2013- Put up only 24 points and 420 yards of offense, but this was just year 2 of Leach, Arizona actually had a pretty solid defense, and WSU won the game.

2014- Put up 37 points and 543 yards of offense but lost to a 10 win Arizona team because the defense gave up 59.

2015- Put up 45 points and 631 yards of offense in a win over a decent Arizona team.

2016- Put up a nice 69 points and 614 yards of offense in a blowout of a terrible Arizona team.

2017- Put up 37 points and 646 yards of offense but lost due to turnovers and the defense giving up 58 to what was a pretty elite Arizona offense.

2018- Put up another nice 69 points and 605 yards of total offense in a blowout win.

Arizona is improved offensively, but I don’t know about that defense. SDSU is known for good defense and not scoring much. If you watched that game, their offense is truly awful and nothing like us. Arizona’s DC is in his first year calling a defense (former position coach at USC and UCLA). Maybe he will have a great plan, but Arizona’s athletes on defense will probably be on par with what we saw against Memphis. Arizona’s offense will likely score some on us. We will score more though.

If you’re in the mood for research, I’d like to see some numbers on SEC teams going out to the west coast for late games like this one.

The last three that have taken place in recent years are LSU at UCLA last year and Texas A&M at UCLA and Ole Miss at Cal in 2017. The SEC lost all three of those games.

The SEC in general has not done great in PAC 12 road games the last 20 years, but Arizona playing SEC teams is really rare. They played a home and home with LSU in the mid 2000’s and that’s the only SEC games they’ve played in the last 40 years.

As long as Leach doesn't mention anybody at Arizona's "sissy blue shirt", we should be fine.
