We can laugh, taunt, & poke fun, but those pukes are gonna beat SMU & make the playoff & we're headed to Tampa to play Iowa after 7 starters opt out. At least we beat 'em.

I don't think they beat SMU. And even if they do, I still think I'd take the victory over them inevitably losing their first round game.

Miami losing helps us out as well. They are out of the playoff picture now and we will move up. It will be very interesting to see we’re the committee ranks us this week. I’ve seen projections from 11-13.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. 2 loss team vs a 3 loss team. I predict Miami will be the last one in. They are not out.

People keep acting like the CFP is a merit-based system.

It's not. Think TCU a few years ago - this expanded version is still very much an invitational so they can arrange the match-ups they want to make their money.

It's entertainment whose primary reason for existence is to generate profits.

When one thinks about it from that perspective then the "decisions" from the committee start to make more sense.

UPC is good enough to win a game in the playoff depending on the specific matchup. If they are in the playoff, one win is the most probable number. Hopefully SMU finishes this conjecture.

I think Orlando is a possibility, but Tampa also.
Yeah. I've seen a good many "expert" projections of Cocks vs. Illini in Orlando. If opt outs weren't a thing, I'd be excited about it & my butt would fill a seat there, but I went to the '22 Gator Bowl, where we had 8 starters quit, er, opt out, & that's what caused the L. Our team at full strength vs. Notre Dame at full strength would have been a 17+ point win. I'm convinced. I walked out of the stadium that night & told my family that I'd never spend my hard earned money going to a bowl again since quitting, er, opting out is now the new "in" thing to do.

I also opted out of going to bowl games. 🙂

I agree. I would add that, because of this quitting phenomenon, only bowls that are part of the CFP should still exist. Eliminating first round byes would save a couple from extinction. Games should not be played that feature partial teams.

Serious question - what differentiates the CFP games from bowl games regarding quitting, uh, I mean "opting out"? If players are skipping bowl games to avoid the risks that might compromise their potential pro careers (risk vs reward), how do these risks not exist in CFP games? Are they paid extra for their appearances in CFP games? If not, and it's just the supposed "prestige" of them, I suspect it won't be long before the CFP sees the same player defections, as we've already seen it infect the regular season games.

Serious answer: I don't know exactly, other than bowl games that aren't CFP games have been - and are - designated as "meaningless". It's OK to sit those out.
