The Univ. of Iowa has just announced that Spencer Lee will medically forfeit the remainder of the wrestle back round, effectively ending his career as a Hawkeye.

He is going to regret doing that down the road.

Is there a known injury? If so, he sure has not much to gain by wrestling for third vs fourth. Also, it is not going to change the team competition-PSU is far ahead. While his Hawkeye career is over I would think he has plans to wrestle at the next level-in world and Olympic competitions. The way the Olympic weights are he could wrestle internationally at the lowest weight. Curious his post college plans. I am sure NOT a Hawkeye fan but he has had one heck of a wrestling career and last night's loss was reported by the tv commentators to be the biggest upset in decades if not the biggest since Dan Gable's 1970s loss. it is important to remember that Gable did rebound and was dominant in winning gold at the 1972 Olympics. See what happens.

We don’t know if he is injured. Would like to have seen him wrestle if he was able, he would have gotten applause from everyone. Great career, fun to watch and good luck at the senior level. A lot of pressure was put on him, not enough help from his teammates.

The injury is a broken ego.

I see this as similar to football players opting out of bowl games. He was on a mission to achieve a specific goal....once that goal is eliminated he can just relax and heal. His forfeiting is a blow for the Iowa team....i do wonder why SL chose Iowa....was PSU out of scholarships?..did we already have a stud @ 125?....did SL want to make a name away from PSU? I realize Pennsylvania is the top wrestling state and not everyone can go there.

I think that pretty much wraps our team title...even mathematically. If any Hawkeye was capable of earning max points it was Spencer.

I disagree. This is different. A true champion goes out like a champion. On the mat, darn it. With head held high. Do your best until it’s over.

I guess that he needs to take some time this afternoon to go out & buy his mom a new pair of glasses.🤣🤣

Seriously, man up & finish wrestling the rest of the tourney. No wonder Iowa has fallen into a distant second behind our Nittany Lions.

The Young Guns wrestling Club and its founder - Jody Strittmatter - may not have been the major reason why he went to Iowa, but it may be part of the reason. Strittmatter wrestled at Iowa. There have been a number of "Young Guns" over the years who have gone to Iowa. Strittmatter has said that he doesn't encourage those kids to go to Iowa but it looks like some sort of direction is given IMO.

This was already being discussed in the Session V thread. No need to start a new thread about it. I'm locking this thread
