Should have seen this coming and used the money to hire Santucci
Yeah…. We don’t do things that way. :censored:

I hate that we’re losing Lembo. Special teams weren’t very special last year, but I think he was a good coach. Gonna be a task to upgrade or at least make a hire of equal value.

I don't know his age vs Beamer. It's possible Beamer is the same age or older than Lembo. That said, Lembo came across as a father type figure to Beamer.

My thoughts…if we’re having to win with ST we’re not very good. ST should be good, but they shouldn’t be a pillar of your program. Beamer needs to realize and use this opportunity to bolster the defensive staff. He did that with the Coley hiring. Hoping he does the same with this.

Lembo is the best in the biz and out STs sucked this year.

I thought ST were terrible last season; as if Lembo had already left us without a replacement.

Lembo is a little older (53) than Beamer (46), but it's the glasses and nearly bald head that gives him that fatherly "look".

Lembo always gave us the most animated, informative press conferences of any of the coaches.

Wish him the best.

This ST coordinator talk got me wondering about UGAs staff. They have a ST coordinator, but he’s a “support staff”. So he’s not an on the field coach. Also found this interesting. Apparently they put their coordinator positions out for sponsorship. How does that work? If you find the contract you get your name on it?

I think Beamer's 2 recent hires are good hires, at least on paper. So, I'm hopeful he will find a good replacement. Among other things, Beamer needs a good sounding board for times when things will inevitably go bad.

ST was great in 2022. Lousy last year. Lembo’s a good coach and wish him well. Should be easy enough to replace though. ST coach should not make the difference for a team. It says something that he easily our best assistant in 2022

It’s really an interesting coach, I mean you have to know all facets of the game and I’m not sure how someone that hasn’t kicked before teaches kicking, maybe the psychological part of it but the technical part would be a stretch! I’m sure with Beamers ST background and with his Dad’s experience he can put a short list together! But they must be able to recruit all positions!

I get some people want to be head coaches, but why Buffalo? I would have held for something warmer!
Lembo has been a Head Coach before. He was a Head Coach at the Division 1-AA level and produced 3 top 25 teams in 5 years, including one Top 10 team,. Then he coached as a Head Coach at the Division 1 level for another 5 years and produced 3 Top 25 teams there, including one Top 10 team.. He then became a Head Coach at Ball State, going to 2 bowls in 5 years. I feel certain that Beamer leaned on him for advice within the entire program, not just special teams. The fact that Beamer had no prior experience as a Head Coach, made Lembo VERY valuable to the program. I agree that special teams were not special this year. But special teams saved our asses in 2022. This is a BIG loss for Carolina football. I'm happy for Lembo; sad for us.

major blow no matter how we rationalize it

lol, "major" is a bit extreme.

He was a good ST coach, but our ST weren't even all that good this past season.

I saw a good suggestion online that Beamer should take over ST, given his background, and hire a co-DC/LB coach or something along those lines.

It's a big loss. He was a really good coach that made a positive impact to the program. But that's what happens when you hire good coaches. They get opportunities. Lets hope Beamer can find another good one.

I dunno. It's a loss, but should be easily replaceable.

If our ST coach was that integral to the staff, that's alarming.

I think a lot of things go on behind the scenes. He has a lot of experience that extends beyond just being a ST coach. He's either been a HC or AHC (in addition to ST) his whole career. He's always been a guy the HC wants as his right hand man. That's what I was referring to in making a positive impact. Seemed to be a very bright guy too, I hate losing smart people. It's becoming harder and harder to find those.

Their conference affiliation is weak, but they are the largest state university location in NY State, with more than 33,000 students. Three campuses but they are all in Buffalo and one of them is more or less administrative.

It would be the most South Carolina thing ever if the pivotal coach on our staff was the ST coach.
