As I am working on my anxiously awaited 4th Annual Coach's SEC Picks, I have found some really interesting things for this upcoming season

1. While overall Georgia is better than Fla and LSU better than Auburn, the schedules of these two teams may be their undoing to allow a Fla-Auburn SEC championship game
2. What impact will Ellis Johnson have on a group that should be one of the SEC's best defenses. Will Ellis' group continue to score points that could get SC over the hump in the East, especially with Georgia and Tenn at home?
3. Does Phat Phil fall back to a 7 win team again?
4. Can John Parkerrrrrrr not be such a ***** and lead what could be a very good Bama offense?
5. Now that Mississippi got their Nutt, does he continue his winning streak over State?
6. UPig could be in for a 6th place finish in the West...just what will be the Petrino effect?

Ole Miss to be better than most people think. They have a solid OL and DL. When you have that going for you, you can win some games. Ask Jackie.

I think Phil definitely finishes in the 7-5 range.

Not only do they have a new QB, but the schedule will be difficult. Not only do they have to play Alabama, Auburn, and MSU out of the West (could be worse, but all are fairly tough games), but South Carolina, Florida, UGA, and Kentucky all catch Tennessee coming off open dates. On the flip side, UT catches their open dates the weeks before UAB and Vanderbilt. It's not a kind set up for the Vols.

I don't see them going 5-7 and missing the bowls, but I do see them compiling enough losses this year for the UT faithful to turn up the heat a little bit on Fulmer. They could do as well as 8-4, but I think that's their ceiling.

And I didn't even mention the fact that they'll be running a brand new offense after having had to replace about half of their coaching staff.

due to better organization and some stability in the program. They dont have an idiot for a coach anymore, and that will be a big big plus.

coaching at UT in 2009 as Phil does.
Phil better be competing for the SEC East next year or at least show signs that they will be expected to compete consistently for the next few years.

In the meantime I am going to enjoy the following
1. MSU doesnt start out the season with an automatic "L"
2. MSU is comming off a bowl season
3. There is reason to expect some modicum of success
4. A couple of my sons friends will be on the team
5. The wife agrees that we are going to get a Honda generator and tail gate in style this year with satelite TV

It could all go to hell, rain every saturday, etc, etc...but what the hell I got a shot at a nice fall.

Roy Kramer leaves. Phillip's record gets knocked down a few notches. Coincidence?

It's tough to be as bad as they were last year. They were never in as bad of a situation as we were in. I think Nutt may get to 5 or 6, MAYBE 7 wins this year. And possibly the year after that. But I think once, gulp, O's recruits leave and Nutt's start coming in, they will drop off.

I think alot of UM's success depends on whether the new running back pans out.

A couple of my predictions:

1) Carolina SHOULD be better. Will Seshomoru's yearly prediction come true this year? No.
2) Alabama won't be much, if any, better this year than last. They'll drop a gimme game to someone, my guess, Ole Miss.
3) I won't go out on a limb for LSU or Auburn, they are too damn tough to get a read on.
4) Florida may average 45 points a game. I will watch every UF game available.
5) Kentucky and Arkansas replace State and UM as doormats. Vandy will always be there.

Ark MAY suffer this year. After that, I fear Petrino will kick us in the nuts and steal our lunch money.

After all, that's what Greg Byrne would do.

But yes, I agree with this. Arky will be down this year having lost D-Mac and Felix Jones, but give Petrino one (maybe two) years and Arkansas' domination over us will continue.

1. May be right, I haven't looked at the schedules, so I'll take your word for it.
2.EJ will make them better, but I think Spurrier giving up the play calling will have a good effect for them as well. That said, they still won't be much better than 8-4.
3. I hope so. I want to see him get fired. Can't stand him.
4. No on John Parker Wilson. He will start because he is the "favorite son" but that probably isn't what is best for Bama.
5. Sadly yes, if for no other reason than the game is in Oxford.
6. Arkansas may very well finish last, but I think the real question is where do they find their next freak of nature who will beat us time and time again like McFadden and Matt Jones.

"4) Florida may average 45 points a game. I will watch every UF game available."

This is a team that was bad on defense last year. They even let Michigan score 30-something. They got some problems to solve

That much is true Coach. Florida still has some issues defensively to iron out, though I think a lot of that had to do with the fact that I think they lost 10 starters off their national championship team. However, they will still score a bunch. Tebow is the best QB in the country, and Percy Harvin is unreal.

A few things I expect to see:

1) Pre-season No. 1 UGA loses 2 or 3 games and plays in a Florida bowl. The expectations and brutal schedule will get to them.
2) Casey Dick finishes in the top 4 in the conference in passing numbers. A stretch here, but he'll be chunking it a lot. He does have one thing most SEC QBs don't: experience.
3) A lot of talk about Phil Fulmer's job status in early October and possibly throughout November.
4) Vandy and Kentucky combining to win 3 or fewer conference games.
5) A dog fight for the 3-6 spots in the SEC West. Arkansas obviously lost a lot, but I see them putting up enough of a fight that it'll be a toss up between Bama, MSU, Ole Miss, and UPig for the final 4 spots in the West.
6) An unfilled SEC bowl slot, maybe even 2. We'll likely get two BCS bids and therefore will need 10 bowl eligible teams. Not going to happen again like it did last year.

1. I'm going with Florida over LSU in the championship game.
2. South Carolina will battle Tennessee for 3rd place in the East. It really doesn't matter where they play Georgia. Ellis Johnson will help, but it won't be anything dramatic.
3. I think Phil can get 8 wins this year, but that program has taken a pretty big step back since the national title.
4. JPW will still be a *****, but he'll be good enough to get Bama to 3rd in the West and a decent bowl.
5. I think the MSU-UM game is completely up in the air right now. I'd probably pick them just because they're at home.
6. I agree. Arkansas will finish last.

" It really doesn't matter where they play Georgia."

they beat Georgia last year right? Georgia will be coming off a trip to Arizona St (who is predicted to be a possible top 10 team as well. This will be a huge game for the Cocks and Spurrier. Georgia has alot coming back, and so does SC.

Lots of interesting games in the SEC this year

1. agree;
2. they will be very good on d; they would have done a lot better last year if they hadn't lost so many d players including their no.1 jasper brinkley; ej is a very good coach.
3. yes, east is just too tough;
4. he should improve; i look for bama to shock somebody and get shocked again themselves;
5. yes; we will be vulnerable to a passing attack but not woody's run-run-pass-punt attack; we will also probably be fighting for a bowl game; i think state gets at least 6 w's before the eggbowl so it would be pretty damn interesting if we both have the same records and were fighting for the last bowl spot.
6. petrino probably couldn't have picked a team w/ a style more unfavorable for a quick change into his spread passing attack; also he has no qb help; state and om will both win easily over the hogs to put them in the basement.

Georgia was a very different team by the end of the year and will be even better this year. Carolina will have a good season, but they won't beat Georgia.

If there is a way for MSU to lose that game we will. I would use the term snakebit when it comes to describing the Arkansas series. 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2004 are games in particular that we should have won. The 2004 game even included a block field goal returned for a TD.

you are wrong at all...Georgia has a better team...However, what makes it so interesting is SC's defense will be very good, its in Columbia, Georgia will have just traveled to Tempe for a tough one....if Spurrier is ever going to steal one, this needs to be it

with Nutt's departure. I just hope his luck against us doesn't follow him to Oxford.
