commenting on his time at Florida and tOSU, he said that the top signees were expected to be on the field producing by their second year, and the ones that needed development over longer times usually moved on from the program. He said the new recruits will pass that type of player, since you are essentially a pipeline to the NFL. The fact he said that was surprising, as usually the coach speak is all about development and some take longer. Anyhow it was saying by the time your guys hit their 3rd year, if they are not on a clear trajectory up, then most transfer. This was his past experience.

What he said about the current world where transfers are much easier and in some cases $$$ can be involved, the window is shorter for these players. His example was a Chase Young style 5* player will be on the field contributing in year 1, and getting major recognition by year 2, and then gone after year 3. The ease of transfer has put all they guys on a short timeline, as they top players are assuming drafted after year 3. When OL was discussed, he did hedge on that a little bit, but said Larry Johnson was expecting his elite DTs to play in year 1. His example of a DTs who played in year 1 were at Clemson, Bama and UGA.

he sounded like id did not like the current situation, but thought it was good that players were getting "rewarded" for their NIL value. He said it was only "fair" with all the TV money. That sounded more like everyone should get a paycheck rather than NIL. His final diatribe talked about the elites who will compete for championships, and they will have high player turnover (NFL early departures or the UP or OUT transfers). he suggested that the elite teams will be playing with younger players while the rest will tend to fill with older players who are not likely NFL ready. he disagreed with the COVID year gift as it has transferred extra year to players who may not have succeeded and reduced chances for HS recruits. 2026 is the year where the COVID extra year players are no longer a factor, but he said in the meantime you are getting a lot of HS players who were going to P5 now either G5 or FCS teams.

interesting comments but is there any data behind his claims? I thought most of the portal players are not getting picked up so losing scholarships......so HS players would get those scholies. also is it true that the top teams are getting younger and playing more FR/soph players? I thought UMich changed their OL this past year with transfers = older players.

JVP said he said to his coaches that if they didn’t see a kid starting by their redshirt sophomore yr, don’t recruit them
