Anyone have an authentic recipe to share? I picked up two bottles of Four Queens earlier today so I have the main ingredient.

I saved this recipe that Victor E. Bell shared on our old board:

Approx 1L ginger ale
4 oranges
4 lemons
1 tsp caraway seeds
12 oz honey
4-5 cinnamon sticks
750ml Four Queens whiskey (any cheap whiskey will do)
1/2 750ml cheap vodka. Some will use grain, whatever.

Zest some of the fruit and put about a tablespoon of zest in a large pot. Peel, quarter, and squeeze the rest of the fruit into pot. Add all other ingredients except alcohol. Boil on stovetop for 6-8 minutes. Stir constantly. Cover and allow to cool a bit. Add booze and stir. Strain and bottle. Yield approx 2 1/2 750ml bottles. Some people cut up the fruit and use peel and all. I find that can make it bitter. Up to you. I strain twice. Some will put a cinny stick in the bottle with the product. Endless ways to do it.

Narrow it down first: Is it mineral, plant, animal, food, .,,..

I googled because I have never had it before. I found this YouTube video and learned the whole history of it too. She uses Four Queens:

Four Queens? Is this a game of chance??

Do you strain the oranges and lemon or leave it in?

101 proof

High proof spirits, like Four Queens, were very common before and after Prohibition. Over time, the alcohol levels in most spirits were reduced, but today’s spirit enthusiasts and bartenders once again appreciate a high proof spirit.

Four Queens has survived the test of time. This product has been around for so long it is new again. Best of all, Four Queens is both high proof and affordable.

Four Queens is also known as an ingredient in the making of Boilo, the traditional Christmas or Yule time drink in the Coal Region of northeastern and east central Pennsylvania.

A great tribute to boilo from a good friend of mine - a former Blue Bander as well….. enjoy!
This is a pretty good recipe, every family in the REGION has its own concoction. Recipes are handed down from one generation to another; variations of grandpa's/grandma's recipe are frowned upon.

You sir have come to the right place. Your OP will generate O/U 100 (take the over) posts. Bracket polls and bolio recipes are the board's expertise imho.

Boilo is the only thing keeping Four Queens alive. 95% of it is sold in Pennsylvania, and I’d be willing to bet 30% is sold in Skook County.
