Looks like decision to fire WTVA weather staff has "mostly" been reversed.

I don't watch local TV weather forecasters for daily forecasts, its too easy to read online when I've got a minute or two and not have to run sit down and watch 5 minutes of commercials for a 3 minute forecast. I don't watch network tv hardly at all, ever. I do have an antenna on my roof that I can change over from streaming channels to local channels when needed for weather, network sports broadcasts i.e. Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS and the state high school championship football games every year.

I do have the WTVA Weather App on my phone, but I typically see a "powered by The Weather Channel" logo on 1 page or another of it so not sure how much of that app info comes from John and Matt and how much already comes from Atlanta anyway.

If I'm not watching local tv (which is seldom if ever) I'm not going to know if a tornadoes coming so I use one of the warning systems that sends out a message via a text or phone call. Red Alert was the one I started out with but Starkville replaced it with another one (Hyper-Reach I think) however I still get the Red Alert ones too for some reason. There are also the Maroon Alerts from campus that you can sign up for too even if you aren't faculty or students. You put an address on the sheet you fill out on line and the weather specific ones warn you when a tornado is headed your way. I put an address of a business a mile or so from my house and I get both a text and a call from the warning system way before I would see it on tv or hear the sirens. Starkville also has one that warns you of road closures, power outages, etc and Maroon Alert lets you know what's going on at campus.

Question: my 81 year old mother no longer watches the weather forecast on TV, but instead looks at a weather app. Her phone also has the siren when a tornado is located in the area (like an Amber alert). My guess is the owners of the TV stations see the number of viewers of news and weather drop down every quarter and there is no end in sight.

That's what she said.

A lot of people seem to think "TWSS" started with "The Office". This was being said 45 years ago when I was in high school

I think that was the actual original joke on the office... Michael Scott telling a corny old joke and thinking he was so clever and funny.

They should get a job over here in Austin. It's hot most of the time, and we wish for rain. We have a very short stormy season, so they'll spend most of their time checking out the Austin nightlife. It's a good-sized market, and the weather is elementary. Pretty much all they would have to say every night would be:

"It should be hot again today, tomorrow, and the rest of the week."

I understand this. I was a newspaper publisher for 23 years until 2019. It was like being on the Titanic after the iceberg struck. I had resumes out everywhere from 2014 on.

I don’t think nightlife is what Matt and his wife are after. They really do seem to like it here. That being said, after this if they moved on I wouldn’t blame them at all.

I will never understand how Matt didn't get shitcanned for the way he talked to John on live television that one time. John would have been completely justified in coming across camera for Matt's throat, and no jury would have convicted him.

It was definitely being said when I was in high school in the early 90’s. I remember my coach saying it.

There are great places on Austin's west and north sides for young couples raising children. The schools are excellent here down to San Antonio. With everything that you could do around here would be a great place for a couple.

Now that Pandora’s Box is open, I expect WTVA people to start looking for other jobs.

(Nah. I’m not in the know— but it’s basic psychology: if the boss doesn’t appreciate you, then you’d better keep your eyes and ears open)
I was successful in this approach at my last 2 gigs. The last was in spectacular fashion because they were assuming that I really needed them.
