of Paxton Pace for the next year and a half.....looks like he's having Tommy John surgery after injuring himself the other day.

Not good considering we need all the pitchers we can get.

I guess the good news is that he was also a pretty good hitter, so if pitching doesn't work out, maybe he can play OF. Heck, I've heard that Albert Pujols needs Tommy John, but is still playing through it. Not saying that necessarily will be the case though.

that Paxton Pace may never play for us. I have nothing to back this up, but teams everywhere are having to cut players after this year b/c of the new rules. With the 35 player roster cap, I don't know if we can afford to hold on to a guy who will miss all of next year at a minimum. The NCAA continues to look out for the student athlete.

but it might be best for him to "rehab" at Meridian CC and then come back.

The other point is that we are going to lose some players regardless of who our next baseball coach is going to be. They won't be leaving because it's not Raffo.

are due to the fact we don't ice pitchers arms we actually use heat for rehab? I am not a baseball expert so I have no opinion but two friends that played in the minors have offered that theory to me. It does seem we have an inordinate number of pitching injuries.

Once I heard that, I became convinced that Russ McNickle is the dumbest pitching coach in the world.

We beat that horse to death. It stopped becoming an issue once Polk announced his resignation.

I never remember hearing him doing that while he was coach at MCC.. of course he was Head Coach then and not pitching coach.. I could be wrong but the decision to heat instead of ice could come from trainer or head coach.. just sayin</p>

was that McNickle was copying the Dice K throwing program, which makes some sense since Dice K came over to the US from Japan while McNickle was the pitching coach here, and that's when his program came to light.

The other theory, which is maybe more likely, is that Polk is telling him and the trainers to not ice. That doesn't really make much sense to me because pitchers have been using ice for as long as I can remember- 25 years or so as a baseball fan. Polk does do a lot of weird things, and he did make a comment earlier in the year about our pitchers arms being the most tender he has ever seen. I'll check "the book" to see if there's anything in there about it. That may shed some light on this subject.

I have a hard time believing any trainer would not use ice. If that's the case, they need to be fired.
