Lost news over the weekend: Softball takes 2/3 at Arkansas

Softball team is 5-4 in the SEC after finishing 7-16 last year.

They are ranked No. 20 and took 2/3 at No. 17 Arkansas, including a 15-7 run-rule victory in the final game. The main Softball rankings come out on Tuesday so we should move up a little. Softball America has State No. 15 this week.

RPI is 22nd and they are tied for fifth in the SEC standings. The SEC usually gets 6-7 hosts and 4-5 national seeds. State has a sweep of the only team to beat No. 1 Oklahoma this year, so RPI is going to be very favorable if they can find a way to finish 12-12 in the conference. Last year, 13-11 in the SEC was good enough to host a regional and 14-10 was a national seed.

They are home this weekend against No. 10 Florida.

How tough is the SEC? South Carolina is ranked and they are 0-5 in conference play and No. 32 in the RPI. This appears to be another season where every SEC team will make the NCAA Tournament.

Would be cool to host, I know we hosted the Super in 2022 but that was as a 2 seed after we upset Florida State and Arizona (a 3 seed) upset somebody too. Don’t believe we have ever hosted a true Regional/been a Top 16 seed before.

Top 16 host and it's really tough to be top 16. Florida, UGA, & TN are locks. A&M is going to push for one too. We play all four in Starkville. This is the most complete team we've had IMO. Need to clean up some errors. Pitching is ok and hitting has been great.

SC isn't ranked now (won't show til next week though because of the crazy schedule) and neither is OM . SEC is deep every team has a shot at a regional. OK is beatable this year. Our schedule is ridiculous!

It’s nuts. The whole conference as it is now is totally stacked… and here come Oklahoma and Texas next year who are currently 1 and 2 in the AP poll.
