this was mentioned in the same story as the new jumbotron announcement below...it is unclear at this time what position he will hold. and our new academic center will be known as the Templeton Athletic Academic Center.

Anyone else lose that feeling of euphoria they've had since Friday ?

showed me that's he's now in charge with the Cohen hire. LT can be kept on for consultary purposes, and I won't have a problem with that. I believe the Athletic Department will take on the personality of its new Athletic Director, same as teams do with coaches. And the new attitude is not a woe is me, we're poor ole MState and we can never be good attitude. With GB in charge, I feel like good times are ahead.

even though it's that M-State nepotism striking again. But one thing I don't understand is why LT would bother sticking around. I figured he'd land in the SEC office right about now. Other than that, it doesn't appear the old guard will hinder Byrne from his job, so I don't have any worries there.

i am not as worried about it either. the fact that LT came out already and endorsed Cohen as a good hire by Byrne tells me that he is ready to play ball at least to some extent. he did wait to see the reaction of the fans to Polk's tirade first but at least he didn't side with him. now, if he had jumped on the train with Polk, then I would be very, very worried.

the only other worry i have is if Byrne leaves us in less than 5 years and LT is still around. I wouldn't put it past him to try to get the job back....no matter his age.

who has been in a very prominent position for a long time down to some sort of advisory position for much less pay and almost no responsibility. It is a gift after years and years of service. It's sort of a unofficial retirement benefit. He won't have any influence. He might (now this is funny as I write it) do a little PR work, appear in some pictures, etc.

it is amazing that you can't find a crapload of pictures of him via google image search considering how long he had been AD

the dude needs to get out of dodge. let the new sheriff do his damn job without nutcases like Polk and dingle berries like LT. What is wrong with MSU that it can't just clean the slate and let changes take effect?

But, you just don't toss a 20 year athletic director out on his ear and tell him to get out of dodge and don't hang around anymore. You don't treat career people that way. I am disapointed in some of his decisions he made, and there was ample criticism of him that was justified.

The role he will have, if any, will not amount to any type of influence peddling or anything like that. You ever see what some of the banks do with the guy that is 70 and used to be president of the bank? He doesn't influence anyone, approve any loans, or anything like that. He cuts ribbons and attends chamber meetings. I see it like that. And I don't see anythign wrong with that. I think that's the way you treat career people.

by some power group. I'd be willing to bet that if GB had a say in it, he wouldn't want it. On the other hand, if he is given a job, I'd hope he wouldn't be in any kind of position where he has a "vote" on anything. If he's to be a consultant, then he shouldn't need a full time job. He could be called on when GB wanted and not be hanging around the office. He could be a "mole" for the discontents who have some vestige of power remaining and did not like the selection of Byrne....now, how's that for a black helicopter conspiracy theory??

heard anyone who is upset about LT's departure and Byrne's arrival? I haven't. I haven't even heard LT say anything. Chances are, he thinks it is time as well. This wasn't forced on Byrne. It is customary practice.

not close enough to the situation to be in a position to hear anything positive or negative about either. In other words, I'm not part of any inside group. I did state that it's a possible conspiracy theory on my part that may or may not have any teeth...I hope it doesn't have teeth. So far, GB is showing that he has a big set of cajones and can handle himself without any help from a nobody like me.

This is nothing more than throwing a bone to Templeton, and it's very common to do with long-term career management-level employees. He'll collect a much smaller paycheck and hang around when he wants to, do a little consulting work, and play a lot of golf. But he won't be making any decisions or implementing any policies.

If you work anywhere, you have seen wonderful, loyal, awful, whiney long-timers retire; all kinds. No matter how much they were loved or disliked, they come back a couple of times, and then they don't anymore. That's because its not a comfortable place to be anymore. Their time is over. And they very gracefully accept it, particularly as they begin to feel like an outsider. And that's the way life is. LT has had too much control to hang around an office being thrown bones; a once powerful man suddenly powerless will not stay. Pride will not let him; that's just life.</p>
