We've found a good coach. Let's take care of him so he's not interested in leaving.
I don't believe we will lose him because of his salary. If he leaves, he will go somewhere he believes he can win more.

One card we can play that we've never had: rev share

I don't know if we would ever do this, but if we really wanted to keep him, what if we said men's basketball would get 20-25% of our player salary pool?

If the football program isn’t already dead, that would surely do it.

Surprisingly, I think most schools are going to go with about 75% football, 15% basketball, and 10% everything else. Which will actually be more money per player for basketball than for football.

I'm just preparing to watch Kentucky rip our hearts out In some ridiculous way Saturday.
I'm assuming the '88' in 'civildawg88' means you were born in 1988 and not graduated in 1988. Because if you had graduated in 1988, you would know to prepare for the refs to rip our hearts out in some ridiculous way Saturday after an otherwise close game.**

Same brother. I also have to mentally to prepare for my wife to talk trash for the rest of the weekend when State inevitably shatters my hopes and dreams again.

That's not surprising to me. From what I can tell, basketball players were getting much more per player than football players before everything blew up. Not that the top players in basketball were getting that much more money than the top ones in football, but even non-bluebloods that cared about basketball (say, MSU) might have been paying its' top 5 basketball players (which is over 40% of the roster) as much or more than the top 5 players in football (which was like 6% of the roster at the time).

It really is inevitable because that's just what Kentucky basketball does to us year after year, but I'll say this. Top to bottom, I'm getting pretty close to being convinced that there aren't more than 2-3 SEC teams that are more talented, and more talent doesn't always win games. I'm really impressed with this team and the way that Jans has them playing. It's not easy to get kids this age to play the way you want, and I'd point to virtually any of Calipari's teams over the years as examples of that

As ridiculous as this may sound today, I think there's a chance that the Hogs look back years from now and find out that they should've thrown the bag at Jans rather than Cal

Been saying the same thing. It's a very tough opening month, and going 4-4 after the first 8 would be a success. 5 wins or more would just be incredible. The back end of the schedule is more manageable and gives us an opportunity to accumulate some wins.

What would 8-0 be?

We should never lose a basketball coach to another school that’s not a “blue blood” program.
That’s my dumb take maybe but we have the money to pay the salaries, we hopefully have enough NIL to attract some good players.
We have some history and we’re in the SEC.
All that being said, Jans may be gone to Miami come end of March ??

No worries. It’s most certainly already dead, so we have absolutely nothing to lose.

The only goal of the football program should be to continue to field a team of warm bodies, so the TV checks keep coming.
